It is kind of ridiculous at this point.
Schools are allowed to open.
Gyms are allowed to open.
You can dine indoors and go bowling.
People are going to work.
They should be too

Not in NJ... Murphy is such a vagina.Chat Icon Chat Icon

People are going to work and schools are opening - that's the only exception to the list.

Eta:to the OP: Maybe they prefer to work at home? Some people are nervous to go to their "offices".

My future sil refuses to go back to work until they have a vaccine. She is happily working from home.

I feel the same way, and I agree w the quote above. I am very fortunate and lucky to be able to work from home. I personally DO NOT feel comfortable going into my office. The virus is aerosolized- the scientists have already proven microscopic particles can linger in the air for hours and potentially infect someone. My building includes cafe workers and other businesses. Our bathrooms are in a hallway that is shared w those businesses. I trust the building cleans as much as they can but lets get real, its very easy to touch a surface and unwittingly touch your face and not realize you did so. My job isnt forcing us to go in, so we arent. Those who want to come in and take the risk- FINE but dont belittle others who fail to share the same dang attitude as you.

Just to clarify my post wasn’t about whether people should feel comfortable or not to go into the office. I was saying the only option that NJ residents can do on Nell’s list was school and office. I know people who started going into the office, but it’s only a few. The edited part was answering why the news anchor may have been reporting from home. A lot of people are nervous about physically going back to work.

I’m trying to understand where I was belittling anyone?

I hate this quoting feature, the part of my post referring to the belittling was not meant for you...it was for those on this thread who make it sound like the News12 crew should be coming into the studio to work just because other offices are also open, and of course those who want to call Murphy and Cuomo wimps and vaginas because they impose restrictions which are keeping us all safe.

So then you were referring to me since I made that Murphy comment.

Well I called Murphy a vagina & wimp, because NJ has been in a good spot for several weeks and he will not open anything. Even NY has indoor dining. People don’t realize that it’s not regions of NJ moving at different phases. All of NJ is pretty much at a standstill, waiting for lawd knows what. Even Cuomo is moving forward. It’s hard to follow Murphy’s logic at this point.

Many small businesses are suffering and closing down in NJ, a lot of the small black owned businesses are being crushed. Many People aren’t getting paid, living check to check or maxing out their cards to survive. While every other state is moving forward.

Again my opinion of Murphy is not belittling anyone or their right to stay home. One has nothing to do with the other.

But even if you could prove you caught covid at Target....what would you be suing for? Did Target intentionally release covid in the air then force you to go shopping? What is the theory of liability?

...letting customers not wear masks when shopping...

Some businesses are actually getting sued by ppl who have had accidents in their stores (passed out, etc) because they were being demanded to wear masks and they medically couldn’t. So now stores are starting to change their signs and instead of saying...all customers must wear masks, they’re now saying things like...masks are encouraged. So ppl who would want to sue a store for catching covid can’t really use that for their advantage.

Our school district doctor said he knows of NO medical reason that would preclude someone from wearing a mask. The only students being offered any sort of minor accommodation are those with cognitive delays. He said if you can’t wear a mask, sign up for virtual school.

If you can’t wear a mask, order online. Some 60 something year old lady was in Target in the aisle I needed to go in for like 10 minutes perusing books for her grandchild with no mask on. It was infuriating.

Yeah I agree with this. People like to claim a medical reason but in reality there aren’t many real reasons. Our society has become me me me. I was hoping this pandemic would make people think about life but it has clearly not.

Hmmm I wonder if that’s the same dr that’s also been denying all medical exemptions from kids with true medical reasons for receiving vaccines. I know many in this situation. Their pediatricians state detailed letters providing enough proof to justify those exemptions, and school doctors still deny them. I would never understand that. I know families that have even gone for second opinions agreeing with their first pediatricians and still get denied. So I wouldn’t be surprised a school dr like the one u mentioned would say the same regarding kids that have medical reasons for not wearing masks. And we can’t forget that not every family has the luxury to sign up for fully remote.

But those with real medical reasons like u mentioned are indeed thinking about life, their own life. What kind of society do we live in that one should worry about someone else’s life but not their own?!? It’s crazy! What happens to the phrase Cuomo loves to use...every life counts...every life but f*ck ur own??

FWIW, both my husband and my offices' are still closed and will remain so through January. Mine is in the city and my husband works for a large public company on Long Island. I don't think as many people are back in the office as you think.

Offices are one thing.
Newscasters are another.

I find that interesting because some new people have be in the studio the whole time--journalism si considered essential. And not TV shows have resumed filming, but I guess like other businesses if it is working out ok for the employer & the employee, they are keeping it as is for now. I think, like most places, they have to keep the staff at 50% capacity, so it is just easier to have the people who have been able to work at home successfully, stay home.

Many of the same people claiming medical exemptions are the same people who say things should just reopen and the old and medically vulnerable should just stay home. Kind of funny that many don't see the intolerance for the mask as a reason why they should stay home.

It’s easy to sit here and criticize the governors, but they have access to information and data before we do.

This was just posted on Bloomberg.com:

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy told residents to “take the damn call,” as 1,612 contact tracers are having trouble reaching people who may have been exposed to the virus. More than half the individuals phoned aren’t cooperating, Murphy said.

“This is highly disturbing, to say the least,” the governor, a first-term Democrat, said. New Jersey reported 13 deaths in the past 24 hours, and for the fifth straight day had a transmission rate above 1, a key indicator that the virus is spreading.

It's also very easy to think we should stay locked down until there are 0 new cases when you have a nice cushy job where you can just work from home indefinitely. Perhaps if someone were to lose their business, lose their life savings, not be able to pay their mortgage or feed their kids, there tune might be a bit different .
There are several businesses and people in NJ who are facing that right now as their governor worries about who is answering the phone for his contact tracers

It’s also just as easy to blindly accept everything someone says because it fits what you believe. And I’m still waiting to hear how what I said translates to me “belittling” people.

Theres that belittling tone again. I realize i am fortunate to be WFH but lockdowns are proving to work! If governments cant control the spread, the economy will NOT recover. This stems from piss poor leadership at the federal level which should have opted to pay those who cant work from home to stay home, by even with the $600/week stimulus, people are choosing to be stupid and get together for birthday parties and social reunions not caring that its primarily those type of events that cause continued transmission.

Cut those transmission vents, you can cut the spread considerably. NY and the northeast has done a great job so far but we need to just get used to the new reality that intermittent lockdowns are just inevitable as hotspots happen.
