Nail salon and bringing baby? When did you, if ever?

To get a mani/pedi these days requires help from my mom or mother in law or going when DH is home on weekends. I worry about fumes/nail dust. Did you ever bring the baby in? She's still in her carseat, so in theory it would be easy. I have never smelled "fumes" in the place I go, but I'm sure they're in the air. Hmm...

He's never been in a nail salon and I honestly don't plan on ever bringing him in. The fumes bother me, so I wouldn't want to expose him to that.

Good question Lana! I'd love to know too. I need a pedi very badly...

Right?! There's a lovely place near my house...always empty, door usually open, never smells, but maybe it's a question for doc.

I've never taken 2yo DD to a nail salon but if I needed to go when she was an infant and DH wasn't home then I would in an instant. She was always sleeping and very content if she was awake. I'm sure it would be fine, try itChat Icon

I have taken mine when they were babies and now I can't go without taking those two crazies with me because they want mani/pedis too!

Never took them. In part because of fumes and in part because I wanted that to be "me time" not worrying they were getting into something.

Re: Nail salon and bringing baby? When did you, if ever?

I'd have to find a place open early on the weekends to go without DD for it to be only "me" time and I'd honestly rather sleep in (since that's the only time I get to sleep a little extra during the week from my usual 5:30-6 am wakeup call by DD). I would feel super pampered if I could go with her... I'm still thinking about it. I don't have a "regular" place here since I moved. I could totally just hold her on my lap and she'd pull my hair (lovingly of course) the whole time and she'd laugh and giggle... I just don't know. I never go places where it smells. If I smell something when I walk in, I just walk out.

Re: Nail salon and bringing baby? When did you, if ever?

Never. I just don't think it's an appropriate place for small children.

Personally, I don't think it's fair to the other patrons because what happens if halfway through your mani/pedi your child starts acting up? Not that easy to get up and soothe them when you are soaking in a tub or have wet nails.

Re: Nail salon and bringing baby? When did you, if ever?

I just took my 2 y/o DD for the first time only out of desperation and won't be making a habit of it. Fortunately she was very good (thanks solely to Blues Clues on my iphone), but I felt guilty the whole time. Of the fumes, the lack of stimulation (just sitting in the pedicure chair while I got my nails done), and of the potential fear she'd disturb other patrons. I'd be pretty ****** getting a mani/pedi and hearing a crying or wild child.

Re: Nail salon and bringing baby? When did you, if ever?

I just asked this question the other day too. It seems that the majority feel its not the best place for a baby. I'm still torn tho bc I go to a salon that's very open, clean and not smelly. Plus, I feel like I've seen people with infant seats in there before. Its a tough call bc you would think it's easier when they are in a seat rather than when they are older and want to run around. I'm gonna have to say that you should use your best judgement based on the type of salon you go to and the time of day when it's not as crowded. So far I haven't had a problem having my mom watch DD for an hour so I can run out, but I cant say I'd never take her when she is a little older and still content being in her seat. Chat Icon

I took her once out of necessity. We had a family wedding and the people that watch her (my mom and sister) also needed to go. It was fine, she slept. It was just the three of us, not smelly. I was so stressed about her waking up that I probably won't do it again.

DD is 3.5 months old and she has been with me to get 3 pedicures already. Personally, I never smell fumes so I never thought about it bothering her. She loves it. She just sits on my lap and watches everything that's going on.

She has also come with me for a hair cut. I don't have the option of leaving her with people b/c DH works a lot and my in-laws and parents watch her while I am at work, so I feel bad asking them to watch her extra so I can pamper myself with pedicures.

I take my DD with me every week. She usually falls asleep on the ride there so I just leave her in the seat and put her in the stroller. Im a regular where I go so if she starts fussing, one of the women will stroll her around.

Never. Not necessarily b/c of the fumes but my kids would never sit through a mani and pedi and I deserve some time to myself so I take it.

I never took my 1st two kids because they were crazy/colic/don't sit still babies and I knew they would never make it through a pedicure. I wouldn't do a mani but would do a pedi with my new baby. Was planning to take her with me this week but now timing isn't going to work. Will do it soon. The place I go to said it is no issue if I come on a weekday - they said the woman who work there will even help out if need be. I figure she can sit in the stoller and nap or watch and whne she gets bored sit on my lap. She is 5 mos now.

When I was growing up I used to go two places with my mother every other week...one was the nail salon, and the other was the tennis club.

To this day, two of my favorite smells are nail arcrylic & tennis balls. My mom still plays tennis several times a week, and when I am with her I always give her balls a nice big squeeze and a smell.Chat Icon

Re: Nail salon and bringing baby? When did you, if ever?

i took dd twice...once when she was about 2 months...she just slept in her carseat the whole time. the second time she was 3 months and she was sleeping when we got there but woke up and so i held her on my lap while i got a pedi and she just loved watching everything and everyone! it's not ideal and i dont like to do it often but i HAVE done it.
