My (somewhat insane, but quick!) birth story...

Well... Saturday night (7/11) and Sunday morning (7/12) I was having light contractions. Nothing to write home about. 10am the contractions got mildly worse and I noticed some regularity. By 11-11:30, the contractions were a little stronger. We got to the hospital at 12pm, at which point I still felt fine. I walked from the ER to the OB ward, and the OB nurse checking me in had to even ask me why I was there (I had to actually tell her I was in labor!). Got into triage at 12:30 and started having some painful contractions. The doctor came in to check me by about 12:45 and by that point I was only 5cm dilated, 60% effaced, at baby was still high in my pelvis at -2 station.

And that’s when it happened. Next contraction I needed to push. The nurse was telling me not to, that I wasn’t even close to ready, but I couldn’t help it. Next contraction came just 30 seconds later and I couldn’t help but push. 30 seconds later and I’m feeling this extreme burning sensation and I start yelling “the baby is coming out!”. Next push and she was BORN!

So I went from 5cm to 10cm dilated, 60% to 100% effaced, and -2 station to OUT in less than 5 minutes. My baby, Sage Evelyn, was born at 12:53pm.
Forget the epi - I didn't even get to see the delivery room!

Sage was still in the amniotic sac when she was born. My water broke once her body was out. The nurses were very excited about this – apparently it’s called being born “under the veil” or “in the caul”, and it’s supposed to signify a “blessed” child who has “contact with the spirits”. That much remains to be seen… for now I’m the one who feels blessed to be her mom.
