My LIW/LIF girls...they are the best.
As some of you know from my posts, I am battling breast cancer. At the moment, I am midway through my chemo treatments and so far, the doctors are happy with my progress; my tumor - a 3 cm mass that was as hard as a gumball - couldn't be felt after my first treatment of chemo back in October. I had a difficult time on my first chemo cocktail - Adriamycin and Cytoxen, but I am now on low-dose, weekly Taxol and I'm feeling a lot more like myself on it. My hair is even growing in a little (though the Taxol may make the little stubbles fall out again, who knows.) Once the chemo is done, I'll be facing surgery. Providing all goes as planned, I'll be getting surgery done in mid-March.
So that's a bit of background on what I'm going through.
In January of 2009, I joined LIW as a bride-to-be, with a 2010 wedding in mind. During those two years of postings, a bunch of us 2010 girls (and a few from other years) formed some really great friendships; some were mostly online, some offline, most a combo of the two. Thanks to LIF and Facebook, we are still a pretty tight - and really rad - crew.
From the moment I told these girls about finding the lump in my breast, they were there to console me, keep me calm, offer help, give me doctor and hospital referrals, etc. When I found out it was cancer and I broke the news to them, the amount of love and support I received was just amazing.
Far be it from me to see what was coming next from this beautiful group of women...knowing that I would be facing an erratic work schedule due to appointments, scans, chemo, and days off from not feeling well because of treatment, they took up a collection for me. They provided DH and I with a substantial safety pillow to fall back on if/when times got hard.
Simply amazing.
But wait, there's more! A couple of months ago, they raised some more money for me via an online bake sale that they organized.
The amount of love and generosity I have received from this group of women is just astounding. And I'm going to pay it forward...what goes unused by DH and I, when all is said and done, will be going to a local clinic that provides free mammograms to women and men who need them.
I wanted to write this post around Thanksgiving, because I am so, so thankful for all of this, but I was on my last treatment of the Adriamycin/Cytoxen and was an emotional mess. I would've never made it through the post without drowning my keyboard in tears.
So, this Christmas Eve, I want to make a shoutout to my LIW 2010 (+ a sprinkling of other years) elves...you guys are truly the best and have been such a wonderful support network. I love you all!
And, if anyone reading this has any questions about what I am going through, how I found it, etc...just FM me. I am a very open book about it.

This brought tears to my eyes. You are such a kick @ss woman, I am lucky to know you. And I am lucky to be a part of such a wonderful group of girls. You deserve every bit of what was raised and more.

i thought i had seen something about you being ill, but didn't want to pry.
first of all, i'm so happy to read that things are going well for you. i'll be praying that it all continues in a positive direction and that you'll be cancer-free very soon.
as far as your angels/elves: yes, there are still amazing and wonderful people in the world. sometimes we are related to them, sometimes they enter our lives in funny ways. may they also be blessed ten-fold for the love, compassion, and generosity that they have shown you.
such an amazing post. and i can see why you would be an emotional mess writing it. i'm crying and i'm not living it.
again, many blessings to all.
and thank you for the gentle reminder of what really is important at this time of year and all year round: health, love, compassion, generosity.

What an amazing shout out!
I just want to let you know that you are not alone. I have one close friend who just kicked cancers ass and another who is nearing the end as well. I know that it's a really rough road with good days and bad days, bit there us a light at the end of the tunnel. You will soon join the ranks of all the strong woman who looked cancer in the eye and said fuc|< you!!!! Have a very merry Christmas!

I'm sorry to hear you're going through this. I really think we meet people in our lives for a reason, and sometimes we don't find out why until later on. It sounds like you were sent a bunch of angels :)
