My kitty is in the hospital and they dont know... UPDATED A MUST READ FOR ALL PET OWNERS
whats wrong, they have done blood test, xrays, an ultrasound,- all negative but he keeps throwing up and in the hospital since monday am. I am sooo sad, we have 5 cats and 1 of them chewed fishing line , he is the only one sick, so its a guess he may be the one who chewed it, I dont know what to do- the ulstrasound didnt show a blockage in the intestines or stomach- so now they either want to do an endoscopy or surgery to open him up and see what it is!!! Im nervous and scared and dont know which route to take

thats what Im thinking too, but they also said to me that if it is an obstruction that they cant see and I wait the obstruction could make his intestines leak.
I just called. They said so far he hasnt thrown up all night and he looks brighter, so they are going to feed him. If he throws up again then we HAVE to do something, so I am praying for my kitty, please be able to hold down your food. His name is Church. We visited him yesterday and he was sooooooo happy to see us, he didnt look good but my spirits are lifted with todays results so far. I have to wait till around 3 to call again.

Update: Well I was able to bring him home last night but he still isnt out of the woods. He hasnt thrown up since 2 nights ago, so thats good , but he lost so much weight and he still wont eat,  thats why they wanted him to come home to see if he will eat at home, so I had to go to the vet this morning and get him appetite medication. He drank some water but no food, so now he is hiding again under the couch, last night he seemed more alert than today, Im just scared cause its now 6 days with NO food and I think hes getting weaker. Oh I pray these appetite meds work, cause she said if not they HAVE to do surgery and I have to realize they may open him up and find nothing too- I dont know if I can do that,  , please keep those prayers. thanks

Hi everyone, well my kitty is back in the hospital,
He threw up again, and I am going to edit the topic for everyone b/c it affects ALL pets not just cats, any dogs, ferrets- any animal.
My kitty chewed fishing line- a whole bunch, he threw up a HUGE ball of it this morning- I had to rush him back to the hospital- they took an xray his intestines looked better but if he continues to throw up they have to do surgery in his intestines. they did an ultrasound but unless the linear foriegn object accordians itself around the intestines you cant see it, in churchs case it "looks" like it was floating in the stomach and what was causing him to throw up was the ball of fishing line would keep going to his spincter that connects the stomach to the intestines like a cork- causing a blockage. If it broke off and some remains in his intestines, he will continue to throw up and only surgery can remove it from the intestines. the surgery has a painful and long recovery- I am praying so hard and thank you all for praying too that it doesnt come to this.
My DH went fishing, left the pole in the garage, church went there and chewed off the hook part off the fishing line. I guess it tasted like fish, but after reading about this ANY type of string, yarn, tinsel, dental floss, ribbon pulls from a carpet of string, ANY string the animal swallows it and it wraps itself around the intestines, if not caught quickly enough your pet can die. and if you see your pet swallowing string you CANNOT PULL IT OUT YOURSELF- IF THEY ARE ALLREADY DIGESTING SOME , EVEN THOUGH SOME IS STICKING OUT OF THEIR MOUTH, YOU CAN RUPTURE THE INTESTINE BY PULLING IT OUT!!!!! you have to take your pet immediately to the vet. If you pull gently and feel a tug DO NOT pull anymore. I cannot believe just how damaging any type of string or they call it linear foreign object can really hurt our pets!!!
No more tinsel and ribbon for gifts - no more- I have caught my other kitties chewing on it but never thought anything bad,
I also found out since so many have been talking about Hydrangea plants- they are POISONIOUS plants! if anyone is interested I have a list of all plants that are poison- there are a TON-
Lets keep healthy pets!!!!

Oh, I hope he pulls through okay!!! You guys are in my thoughts!!! Thank you so much for the cautions. We had a dog die of blocked intestines so I know the fear you are experiencing.

I am so sorry; I feel so bad for you and your kitty.
I learned this lesson all to well. I have two cats and one is always getting into something. A few days after Xmas, my cat swallowed curling ribbon from a gift. I realized it b/c it was actually sticking a few inches out of his butt. I rushed him into the vet where they did x-rays. Lucky for us, it was not strangling his intestines. He passed it in his stool later that day. I was so scared b/c I know the damage it can do.
We are always careful with that stuff but it goes to show you can never be too careful.
I hope everything works out for you!!!
