My baby is here!
I had  Reid at 7:28pm on 2/1/13! It was such an easy delivery, but it's been a rough recovery. I am so in love with my gigantic baby -- we came home today! The only time he cries is when he has a poopy diaper (which is basically every diaper -- this kid is a poop machine!) or when he's hungry.
Birth story--
Reid was measuring 9 1/2lbs when I went for my 40week sono. I had been 2cm dilated for the past 4 weeks with no changes, so the doctor recommended an induction because all he was going to do was get bigger. I wanted to wait a few days to see if he'd come on his own, so I scheduled an induction for Friday.
Well, stubborn baby didn't come and so I went in for an 8:30am induction at Good Sam. I was set up in my room with the best nurse ever by 9 and started pitocin. I had progressed from 2-3cm since my appointment the other day. I couldn't even feel the contractions when they started and when I could feel them, I described them as mildly uncomfortable. I knew I wanted an epidural, so my nurse helped me decide when to get it. I will say that I really felt no pain because by the time I decided on an epidural, my contractions were 2 minutes apart, but only hurt a little. After the epidural, I was good!
About 2 hours after my epi, I started to feel a good amount of pain on my left side and I was super nauseated. They told me that was a good sign because it meant LO was very low. Sure enough, they checked me about a half hour into my severe pain and the doctor told me I was ready to push!
I was told I was probably going to push for 2 hours because of how big LO was. It was hard to push at first because I had no feeling, but I started to get a little feeling back by my 2nd round of pushing and I pushed my 9lb baby out within a half hour!
Now comes the bad part -- he tore me apart  ...I wound up with 2-3 cuts deep inside and 1 cut on the outside. It took them almost 2 hours to sew me up because they were so hard to get to. I almost needed a blood transfusion, I had to stay on oxygen, and I basically passed out at one point. It was scary -- I stayed in recovery until 11pm.
Recovery has been really hard. I'm beyond swollen down there, but it is 100% worth it because this baby is the love of my life!!!
Thanks for reading if you got this far. I will say, if you are delivering at Good Sam -- I hope you get Janet as your delivery nurse -- she is AMAZING. The nurses in the maternity ward where you stay are hit or miss. I had an amazing day nurse and a night nurse that annoyed me a bit. Image Attachment(s):
