MY American Idol Vent
I think that having people with criminal backgrounds on a show called AMERICAN IDOL...is wrong.
I know people make mistakes but come on...
cocaine arrests, girlfriend beater...
I dunno...just doesn't sit right with me

I completely agree, and it's worst that this wife beater was given the opportunity to stay for as long as he did.

i have to agree....
as a mother, I definitely wouldn't want my child looking up to someone who has such a colorul background as an "Idol"!!

I think they should do better background checks, because you know if they knew about it, those people wouldnt be on there, then once they are, they cant just kick them off without some bad publicity on the AI's end even if they are RIGHT in doing it. Sp they leave it up to the hands of the people voting I guess.
Then again, People probably still but WHitney Houston CD's..so what do the people know.
I understand what you mean though byt the term "idol"

I agree with you all but I still wanted Bo to win.
I did not like Carrie...she's got a good voice but boring as heck...but I know the all american sweet as pie girl would win.
I watched the second hour of AI...I thought it was a good show...

Somehow every season these people sneak through the cracks on this show and there is always SOME ISSUE with these contestants!
I do agree overall that those with past criminal records should be eliminated from the get-go .. but it seems that is not the policy on the show (as long as their past records are disclosed to the producers before the show begins , its is deemed "acceptable")
.. Its a shame, there are so many current rock and pop stars with plenty of past issues that are still out there making a good career for themselves. its like the "norm" in the music industry, unfortunately. I know the show is American IDOL but really there are hardly ANY performers out there that I'd want my kids to look up to and/or emulate today!!
I DO feel that by the time they narrow it down to the top 12, I sit there and thing this CAN NOT be the BEST AMERICA has to offer in the way of performers/singers!!

I am sure I will get hosed for this, and I will fully admit to my Bo bias, but I am not terribly bothered by Bo's arrest. He could really do a public service by admitting that he screwed up and showing gratitude that he didn't end up dead of an overdose.
Whereas there's no excuse for anything violent. Scott's a big scary looking loser.

Really that all the show is. Idol is just a catchy title.
Kids will look up to all sorts of celebrities, whether Fox deems them "Idols" or not & a lot of those people will have checkered pasts.

There are so many musicians out there that have had drug problems that people idolize so it doesn't shock me that american Idol would put people with criminal pasts on the show...doesn't surprise me at all...
I mean kurt kobain-did drugs, courtney love- a drug addict, whitney houston-need I say more? and the die hard fans still loved them... Lots of celebrities have criminal records...i'm not saying that it makes it right for AI to put them on but unfortunately there are plenty of celebrities out there that are not the best role models to follow but peopole do anyway...
Look at michael jackson...he is the biggest freak out there but die hard fans still love him....
This is just my opinion...

I am very surprised they allow people with records such as his to participate. Extreme Makeover doesn't even take anyone with a criminal record. Even a DWI.

the "role models" (if you can call them that) that we have now are one thing...but what we're talking about here is the COMPETITION itself, and who should/shouldn't be allowed to compete for an "American Idol" title.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I WOULD NOT want my child looking up to someone with a history of drug use as an "IDOL"...

if it was up to me...NO i do not think we should promote people who engage in abusing drugs...or abusing their girlfriend....NOR do i think they should be looked up to or idolized
