How do you get them out? Or let me know if you don't plan on trying, I would love to hear about that too. How old is too old to let them sleep with you?

Dd is 2- we tried every sleep training method known to man and nothing worked. She was up every night crying from 1 or 2 to 5am. We gave up when she was 18 months old and the ped said it was too late for CIO.

Anyway, she still wakes multiple times a night, always reaching for one of us and usually goes back to sleep when she realizes we are there. I feel like getting her in her own bed is never going to work.

I wish I knew... Nate is the same way. We put him to sleep in our bed and when he realizes no one is there he wakes up crying. If we go to sleep at the same time, he will never cry as long as he can reach out and touch one of us.

my friends daughter is finall it moved to her bed at 4 years old...

she slept in her own bed till she was 1.5 years old then her brother was born so she moved into their room

now that she goes to Pre-K and gets up early she sleeps in her own room....my friend told her Santa was watching and that was it! She said if she knew it would be that easy she would have down it sooner.

Is the arrangement really uncomfortable?

I would let it be for now and when she understands better I would explain to her she must go to her own bed.

It is uncomfortable, but not as uncomfortable as being up all night!

My DD is 14 months- she still has to fall asleep with one of us, but we moved her into her own bed (a full-sized futon) and she's comfortable there and stays there all night until the AM.
She still wakes up once and a while- but she's doing OK.
We tried to get her in a crib, but I think it confined her too much, so the big bed has worked well for us.

I don't have kids who sleep in my bed (we only have a Queen, there is no room anyway). But my BIL did and he put a toddler bed in their room, right next to the bed, and after a few nights, my nephew was sleeping in the toddler bed in their room. Eventually they moved the bed into his own room and it actually worked.

Not sure if you have room to do this, but I thought I'd mention it worked for them.
