Sleep advice - Please

Carlie has beena good sleeper since she was about 4-5 months old. She slept 830 pm till 7 am. Since she turned 1 this has gone down the drain. She has been waking at about 5 am, although this weekend she actually slept. I can tell she is so tired and It is impossible to get ready for work while she is up. I try not to play with her so she dosen't think it is play time. If we bring her into our bed she usually falls back asleep but I don't want to start that habit. Any BTDT advice? Can it be teething? She just started walking, can that be the cause? Shoudl we llet her CIO? I am at a loss.

Physical development does affect sleep from what I've seen, but it's more through the night not early in the morning.

Since she's waking at the same time every morning, does she need to be changed? I'm wondering if that's what is waking her up.

Re: Sleep advice - Please

I think some babies just go through phases. When Alex was around 1 year old she started waking at 5am as well. It lasted for about 4-5 weeks and it was dreadful, but I couldn't ignore her becuase oftentimes she had a poopy diaper. I just learned to adapt my schedule to hers and eventually, with time, she went back to her normal schedule. I think at one point we tried to put her down to sleep later, at 8pm instead of 7pm. It didn't work for the first few days - she continued to wake up at 5am, even more exhausted, but eventually by day 4 or 5, she caught on, and started sleeping later Chat Icon

Thank you so much. I know ths phase will soon pass, but we are so tired. WE got used to sleeping late again. My DH will take her in our bed when I am not home, which is probably starting a bad habit, but we will deal with that in time too. Her is hoping that Carlie sleeps till 7 Chat Icon !

Re: Sleep advice - Please

We went through the 5 am wake up and it is horrible! I tried everything I could think of, going to be earlier, later, chaniging bedtime routine, etc and like many things I just accepted that this is a phase that will eventually correct itself...and it has. But I know how frustrating it is. It makes for a heck of a long cranky day especially if you are a SAHM.
