Moms who EBF & work full-time...question about feeding schedule?

Just curious what your feeding schedule is? How many times a day do you nurse? I am just wondering how you incorporate food (cereal/veggies/fruits) into your schedule?

I am just starting to introduce food and curious what your typical feeding schedule looks like...thanks!

Re: Moms who EBF & work full-time...question about feeding schedule?

When DS was 5 mos old, we introduced rice cereal to the EBF.

I pumped at 5:30 before he woke up, then gave him some cereal with breast milk, then nursed before we left for day care.

At 9:30 he got a bottle at day care, and I pumped between 10-11am.

At 12:30 he got another bottle, but no cereal because I wanted to be the one to feed it to him (selfish, right?)

Between 2-3pm, I pumped again.

At 3:30, DS got another bottle offered but he usually didn't take it until 4:30 but I asked them not to give him anything after 5pm because it made him not interested in nursing when we got home at 6.

Gave him cereal when we got home and had dinner, then nursed. Gave him a bath and he got a bottle of pumped milk before bedtime.

Then I pumped again after he went down -- sounds super time consuming but it worked for us because DH could help with the feeding at night and I was able to stockpile the freezer.

Good luck!

Re: Moms who EBF & work full-time...question about feeding schedule?

Right now my schedule looks like this:

I wake up & pump at 5am

1)He gets nursed around 6am

2)He gets a bottle of BM at 9am
**Cereal in between this feeding & the next

3) Bottle at 12/1230pm

4) Nursed at 4pm
**Introducing a veggie - around 5/530

5) Nursed before bed around 7pm

I also pump at work

So he is getting BM 5 times a day. When does food, or does it, ever replace a nursing/bottle?

I am so confused with this whole food thing!!!!

My schedule looked a lot like yours. Food should not replace a nursing session/bottle until your DC is a year.

So what I am doing is enough for the first year. At what point, does he get cereal more than once a day...or veggies/fruit multiple times a day???

My ped had us start DD on cereal with fruits and then cereal with veggies (plus Stage 2 dinner) last month at 7 months.
She is also still BF, and nurses/takes bottles 4 times a day. I feel like all she does is eat!!!

I didn't start DD on any solids until she was 6 months. For the first month I only gave her solids 1x per day. The second month I gave her 2x per day, the 3rd month 3x per day. I added the solids in between bottles the way you are doing it. For that third solid feeding of the day - at lunch basically - I gave it with the bottle.

Admittedly I was slooooow to introduce solids, and extremely cautious, trying each new food for a minimum of 5 days before trying the next one. DD didn't even get table foods until she was a year old.

Now she is almost two, eats everything with <knock on wood> no signs of allergies to anything (including peanuts - she LOVES PB&J).

BM should be the primary source of nutrition for the first year, but it's common for DC to drop a feeding after starting solids. I started DS on solids at 6 months. By 7 months, he went down to nursing/bottles 4 times per day. I always give a bottle/nurse first (usually 30-60 minutes before) b/c I want him to get as much BM as possible.
