Moms of elementary school girls...

DD is almost 8. She has an ipad mini, and she can text and FaceTime. She hardly ever does though, and when she does, she has a set contact list she is allowed to. I look at it several times a day to make sure nothing is going on. Truthfully, when she is out at a sleep over, I love the fact that I can text her on her ipad to say goodnight.

As far as FB, IG, etc., she has never asked for an account, and I do not intend to let her have one for quite some time.

Re: Moms of elementary school girls...

My DD is 6 and in first grade. As far as I know none of her friends have social media accounts at this point.

She does have an ipad and she uses snap chat and facetime with family. She is begging for an instagram or facebook but she is very close to the teen pre-teens in my family who are very active on social media. I have my instagram logged in on her device and she likes looking through but knows she isn't allowed to post anything.

I think we live in a world now where social media is such a big part of our daily lives. I know I am her role model and I frequently visit facebook/instagram, post etc. I hope to teach her to be responsible and appropriate when using.

My daughter is 7 and I don't know of many of her friends doing it but I hear many of my 9 yr old sons friends doing it. I am trying to hold off on all of that for as long as possible. I get slack from them EVERY DAY about it, but too bad.

8, almost 9 year old DD here and no, she is not allowed to FB, facetime, chat, etc. She comes home every day with another girls email or phone number and I just say no. She is fine with the no, and I hope to get a few more years before she begs me to cave.

My 11, almost 12 year old son is also a no, but he doesn't even really have an interest in that stuff.

Re: Moms of elementary school girls...

DS is 9. He has an iPad and I control the password. He uses it to play mine craft and madden mobile. He wants a youtube account, I said no. Another parent told me about something videos related appropriate for kids. My DS wants to upload mine craft videos about how to build stuff. etc, but I think it would take a lot of his time.

One of his best friends have iPhone and texts my DS to my phone. He wants a cell phone to text. I told him only next year, in 5th, he might have a flip phone, because he will be able to have dismissal by himself - but I don't want him having anything can that can get stolen or that would be a pain if he looses it.

So far, he has not asked for instagram or FB, but there is no way I would let him. He is still too young for that.
