Re: Mirena - Feedback? Experiences?

I took Loestrin for years. I thought it was great. NO weight gain (for me at least) and you barely get a period. Like, ever. I was on the lowest dose of it.

The one-a-day Today Sponge's!!!

And yes, he's totally sponge-worthy!!! LOL!!!!

Now, that gel insert stuff ---- why do you have to do that PLUS pull and pray??

Because I am ULTRA paranoid about getting pregant. I feel like it's probably not THAT effective (less than BC pills etc) so I don't like taking the chance.
But if you know your cycles well- like I do lately- i can tell when i am ovulating so I am EXTRA careful around then.
2 or 3 days before i KNOW my period is coming and directly after, I am a little less cautious.

I'd still be on it if we werent TTC. I tried Yasmin (sp?) years ago and it was horrible. But Loestrin was sensational.

Mirena - Feedback? Experiences?

I took lowestrin for years and it was great. Very light periods for like 2-3 days. That's it. Then I got the bright idea to go on seasonal, the pill where you only get your period once every 3 months and the amount of hormones was terrible. I've had Paragurad for 3 years now (it's an IUD like Mirena except it has no hormones. Mirena has a very Low amount I believe). My periods are bad (full 7 days with. Rey heavy bleeding) and cramping most months sucks. But I like having no hormones and that I don't have to think about contraception for 10 years. I know it's not for everyone.

Before I had my third kid, I was on Loestrin for years...I loved it, but you have to be very consistent about the time that you take it in order for it to be effective. I was able to stop taking it mid-cycle and get pregnant that same cycle (liked stopped it on Day 10 of my cycle and got pregnant in the next 2-4 days!)...I didn't have any side effects from it.

Re: Mirena - Feedback? Experiences?

I have been on several different types of BC pills because I had a hard time finding one that didn't mess me up in one way or the other. Loestrin was by far the best one I took and I will probably ask to go back on that one once I give birth.

this is what I discuss with pts all day. DEPO has MANY side effects and the release you have to sign is scary to read. Depression, hair loss, changes in skin the list goes on

Plus, you have to go back to your dr every three months. If you are due Aug 1 and go back Aug 5 you can get preg, bc you are w/o BC.
The IUD provides the most protection against preg.
Did you every think about the IMPLANT?

Mirena - Feedback? Experiences?

I'm currently on my third Mirena And I love it. I had gotten the first one after the birth of my youngest daughter; like the others, it did hurt going in and cramped for a few days afterward. Truthfully, I thought coming out was worse but the next goes right in. I do not have any spotting or cramping and could not be happier with the mirena. I have to have this one removed and will not be getting it replaced; my dh had a vasectomy and I no longer need it for bc, besides I'm 49 and no longer want/need the hormones. I will not be happy if I should get a period again after 14 years!!!

I have been taking this for 6-7 years. I only get my period during the week and it's light. Perfect for dating someone you only see on weekends Chat Icon

He is supposed to get fixed however my GYN says I should stay on it will make menopause easier.

PS. Pull and pray is basically asking to get pregnant!

i've been on depo for years. you get a 3 week window to come in for the next shot. so even if you are due on aug 1, you could not get pregnant aug 5. yes, there are exceptions, but effectiveness is very high on the shots. typically your body doesn't settle from them for months afterward. and honestly after years and years on the shot, i never had any of the side effects you've listed.

We talked about this scenario and if it happens we would be totally fine with it. We are headed in that direction anyway so we wouldn't be like OMG I want to die!!!! Like we were fifteen lol. Thank God! But we do want to plan it but we always say if it happens we would be thrilled --- him especially. He LOVESSSSSS being a dad. Loves it.

The problem is, see many ladies a day and I cant tell you how many never make it back on time and end up preg.
From what I know you don't really have that much of a window, the shot is only effective for three months, anytime after that you are opening yourself up for preg.

You might not have had the side effects I have listed BUT, DEPO is known to have those side effects and many others.

What is the implant?

the implant Nexplanon is a small flexible rod about an inch in length. The provider implants it in your upper arm. Effectiveness is 3 years, you might experience, lighter periods, spotting or after one year some ladies say they no longer have period.

BC is based on you lifestyle, and what will work best for you.

you can try the Patch, change it once week and the week of your period don't use one.

con, can irritate your skin, so you must mke sure to change the location each week

Mirena also has skya or the copper paragard (10 yr IUD), A new IUD is coming out soon

AND the issue with that is if you DO get side effects you can't just go off it like the pill. It stays in your system for 3 months. So you'd be stuck with the side effects until it wears off.

I was on depo for all 4 years of college. I didn't get preg and didn't get my period. Breakthrough bleeding once every 3 months and barely any too. However I had never had a pimple prior and got them on depo. And my the 4th I had gained some weight and I was starving myself and working out 7 days a week. I didn't look just like I gained but I looked puffy and bloated. I went off depo and immediately lost 15lbs and lost the bloated look.

My best friend took it and bled 3mos straight and then listen to the doc and got the shot a second time bc he said this was normal. She bled another 3mos straight and even passed out at work! She hated it

Looking back I wish I never took. Read soooo many stories of infertility and I would up having problems. However was listed as unexplained so no way to say it had anything to do with it. But like anything it's a hormone. Everyone is different but if you have a reaction you're stuck for 3mos

Love, love Loestrin! Unfortunately, I didn't have the same luck because it took me quite some time to get pregnant after stopping! But it was awesome and if I ever go back on the pill it will be Loestrin.

I don't know if I could do an IUD or Depo or anything that I couldn't easily discontinue if I reacted poorly, but that's just me. I have heard stores about it taking a while for fertility to return after Depo, but it depends on the person.

the most common, that MIGHT happen are may cause irregular bleeding, spotting, no period or heavy period

after I year many ladies have no period at all
