Mega Millions - $106 million tomorrow night! Let's dream a bit, shall we?
What would be the FIRST thing you did if you won the jackpot of $106 Million ? And the second?
The first thing I would do is quit my job.
Then, I would start looking for a gorgeous house on the water!

I would open a free hospice center to do some good in the world with it and then I'd go on a long well overdue vacation.

purchase the building we currently live in. it's faster than finding a new house, the pay off my moms mortgage and buy my dad an apartment.
then, give each of my siblings a nice sum of money. pay my grandmas mortgage and maintenance for the rest of her life.
open up a shelter for homeless families on top of a franchise restaurant, where the families living in the apts above can work in the restaurants until they are on their feet. (I saw this being down the a Ben & Jerry's in Harlem and it has always inspired me)
make a few EXTREMELY frivolous purchases (home in Italy, and one in the mountains upstate, or Vermont) and an awesome place in Brooklyn...a Ferrari or Porsche for the husband...and a RIDICULOUS shopping spree for Moi.

I would still go to work 
seriously- I would quit my job and leave NY
but first I would stop at my Dad's Finacinal planners office- I don't want to end up on one of those shows about lottery winners that go broke!
but I would buy an apartment in NYC and a house in the hamptons for when I want to come back and visit
then have fun decorating all my new houses with no budget
ETA- I would pay off my Dad and brothers mortgage and buy my sister the apartment she rents in Maryland

Pay off all debt of my family members
Buy a nice but reasonable house on the water on north shore of LI, and one in Florida/NC too
Buy houses for each of our sisters and brothers and parents
Give DH the rest to play with (he'll buy cars and boats!)

after getting the money I'd open up an account for my child to make sure he/she is taken care of, god forbid anything happened to me & DH.
Then I'd look for a new house and buy DH his own business so he would never have to work for anyone else ever again!

I totally agree with you about continuing working. While I might not keep this job, I certainly would continue to work.
My in-laws won the lotto years ago - and then invested very well - and their financail planner told them to pull their money out of the market right before it tanked. They really have some great choices and have done very, very well for themselves.

2. Call DH & tell him I'm picking him up.
3. Tell him on the way to see a financial planer.
4. See financial planner
5. Call our families on the way to claim the prize. (because they can't keep quiet about that)
After officially won:
6. Give 2 weeks notice & take my vacation while I went house hunting & figured out my options.
That would be the logically me.
Reality would be :
Recheck ticket 1000 times.
Scream, tell everyone while I dialed DH's cell phone.

After setting everything up to manage my finances etc. I would be on the phone with a realtor who could help me find my brownstone in Brooklyn Heights, Carrol Gardewns or Park Slope

2. Call JetBlue and go to Charlotte. Then by the property next door to Dirty Mo' Acres.  If my DH was not okay with this, I could buy him off with some of the lotto winnings.
