Making the beds

So Moms...both SAHM and working moms - the questions is, do you make the beds every morning? This is a discussion I was having with my own Mother and so I am curious if this issue is as black and white as one of us seems to think!

Re: Making the beds

I make my bed and my sons bed every single day. It is just something I grew up doing! DS will be doing it himself once he is able to, probably within the next year or so.

Re: Making the beds

I make my bed and most of the time I make DD's bed. But since we have been living with my parents, sometimes DD doesn't get up until after I leave for work (on a non-preschool day) and so I don't make it until later.

I always fix the covers before DD or I get in bed. DH really doesn't care about making the bedChat Icon

Re: Making the beds

I try to do it every day... but it really depends on how fast I have to get out of the bed in the morning....and how many times I have hit snooze Chat Icon

I eventually make it back upstairs and do it at some point in the day if I don't do it first thing in the morning.

I never do it Chat Icon I grew up doing fixing it every day, but stopped somewhere in my teens (much to the dismay of my mother!)

Similar - I try to fix my bed and my children's beds every morning but can't say it happens everyday.

Ditto. Both DH & I are anal about it and that bed is made as soon as the last person gets out of it.

DS' bed isnt always made after his nap but he's got a ton of stuffed animals and pillow pets and loose blankets so it's always looks a mess no matter what.

Re: Making the beds

I make our bed every morning & also straighten the boys cribs...I have OCD when it comes to the beds. If it was left to DH, he would leave the beds unmade indefinately

Re: Making the beds

Yes, everyday. Depends on who's leaving the house last. Either me or DH

DS is in a crib so no need to make it yet. LOL

Re: Making the beds

Never in the morning... only when we change the sheets or when company is coming over.

Re: Making the beds

Not a priority in my house. However, I think it looks so much nicer. I'll raise DD to at least "straighten it out" in the morning.

Re: Making the beds

Dh takes the boys downstairs to start breakfast and I make the beds and throw in a load of laundry. I don't put all 50 pillows on my bed though, I only do that when we are having company. DS's bed always looks like a mess though because he sleeps with 125 stuffed animals.

Re: Making the beds

Last person up makes the bed-though sometimes DH forgets and I might not get back to our room until bedtime. If he forgets, I always make it before we go to bed. I can't sleep with wrinkled blankets/sheets.

The kids-DS is in a crib, no toys in there, no blankets so nothing to make.

DD just sleeps with a blanket over her in bed, the quilt is folded at the end of the bed. Nothing to make really. When she uses the quilt or a comforter, we will make that bed everyday too.

Re: Making the beds

My case is a tad different.
DH sleeps in the day and works at night.
So I am not going to bother making my bed when I get up- just so he can jump in it a few hours later
Waste of time.

Then when he gets up I'm just about ready to head into the bed.

So unless company is coming- I don't bother.

Re: Making the beds

I just throw the blankets up on DD's bed and our bed. It's not officially "made" but it's close.

Re: Making the beds

I make my bed 5-6 days a week.

I make DD's bed less often, because lately I just don't have the time in the morning, and because like Diana said, she has 125 stuffed animals on her bed and I just can't be bothered taking them all off and arranging them nicely.

Re: Making the beds

Nope

I was required to every single morning by my 'mom' (aka stepmother) and god help the child who's bed wasn't PERFECT. My father is ex Navy no less. But it was her standard you had to pass. Many of bad things came from bed making. Your bed was to be made and perfect ALL day long. Only mess while actually slept in. If you sit and read on it or do your homework or listen to music.. well you BETTER be sure its perfect before your feet get get one step away from it. She's even yelled at me as my butt left the bed "WHY IS THERE A WRINKLE ON YOUR BED!?" umm cause I just got off of it maybe? "Don't give me lip, shut up and fix it ugh" (storms out of my room) ha.. yeah that never worked well.

As a result. I'm 35 and I'll be DAMNED if I'll be making my bed. She came to visit and said "Veronica, your bed!" and I leaned over from my kitchen, looked at her and my bed and her and said "yep, sure is.. MY bed, thanks for noticing" Chat Icon

AJ doesn't even SLEEP in her bed so nothing to make. Instead her whole room is a bed. Gotta be a word for that. 15X12 room and over HALF of it is just laid out blankets and pillows. She only sleeps in there (plays occasionally) but its like having a King Size bed.. floor level!

She's like her mama. We don't do sheets. We just sleep with comforters. usually only one. So in my case I try to lay it flat if folks come over. However its probably more shocking that I don't own a bed frame, head board or foot board than it is that I don't have a properly made bed. For her, she just brings her blanket with her to the livingroom to lounge.

Meh.

Bigger fish to fry is what I think.
