There was a story this morning about a barber who is cutting hair in Freeport outside in the parking lot and they told him if he continues he will get a misdemeanor. He says it goes against the commandments. Ummm what???

Is he mixing up the commandments with the bill of rights maybe?
Oh lord.....

He was rambling on and all his rights. News12. I am sure it will be in another 100 times today. Lol

Poor guy was probably nervous. It takes guts to stand up for your rights, especially when others will label you as selfish for trying to earn a living.

I didn’t comment on this latest report because I am done.
I am so sick of him moving the carrot every ******** day.

This cannot go on much longer. Businesses are going to go under and people will lose their homes. We live with high everything here on LI. It is impossible to continue to live this way without losing everything and living in a box

We were told we needed to flatten the curve. We did. Now what????!
We are at the point where we should be opening up more. If you are elderly or immunocompromised , you can PAUSE if need be. The rest of us can wear our masks, be 6 feet away, change our business protocols to make sure it’s as safe as possible and GET BACK TO WORK.

I am furious. FURIOUS.

I am a rule follower. I was all for the pause to help the greater good. But now what? When does it end????

Yes. Carrot dangling is a great way to describe the games being played with us. I agree with your post. I was all for everything for the first 5 weeks or so. Now I too am furious, more every day.

I agree!!

Agreed.
The financial fallout from this is going to be disastrous. It will take YEARS for people to financially recover.
I also don't get it - the virus isn't going away. It will resurface so we need to evolve with it. I am scared for what LI will look like a year from now.
I am scared to what will happen to our home values.
How do we come out of a recession if people aren't working?

you see this is the problem you have people that actually think this is just going to away.

i was one to follow the rules because our health care system couldnt handle it. now we are getting it under control. what is the excuse now???
his new things is every life matters ok i get that but do we go in total lockdown when a shit load of people die from the flu. what do those lives not matter just people with covid 19 matter?

and before i get yelled out I am not comparing the flu to covid 19 i am just saying if the reason for the shut down was to not over burden the health system and that is under control why is now the excuse that every live matters for this but not other diseases like the flu that spreads easily and kills so many a year!!

The decisions of when and how opening occurs are dictated by statistics and science and have to be done in a way to not overwhelm hospitals again.

This. They are easing restrictions here and schools should be opened by June here fully (the school year ends at different times in different states to ease holiday traffic on the Autobahns). They know a second wave is coming, and TBH, I am hesitant to go out and be their “control group.” I haven’t seen my SO in over 2 months. I need human contact. My finances are OK for now. I’m not sure what I’m going to do.

But more and more things seem to come out about this virus (not sure if anyone saw that article about a disease like Kawasaki’s disease is appearing more in children). It’s like the gift that keeps on giving.

I imagine that lack of physical connection must be very hard. Chat Icon

How are the schools going to be working? What measures are they taking?

I can’t even begin to explain the school system here. 4th grade and 12th and sometimes 13th grade (yes, 13th grade if their secondary school wasn’t exactly high school) are important years. Here’s a link if you want to read about it Link

This is what they are doing, sorry for the copy and paste:

Universities are still deciding, but it looks like they will be closed for the rest of the semester (ends in July).

By Pentecost (May 31), 50% of children should be able to return to daycares and schools
From May 11 onwards, families can form private childcare groups amongst themselves (maximum three families together in one group)
From May 11 onwards, students set to graduate next year (Vor-Abschluss-Klassen) and year 4 students of Grundschulklassen may return to school
From May 25 onwards, children will be allowed to return to kindergartens
Students from other grades (i.e. those not graduating this year or next year) will be slowly eased back into schools starting May 18 and 25, with a plan in place for weekly lessons for those in Year 5, Year 6, as well as Year 1 Grundschule students. The current goal is to return remaining grades to school in mid-June if circumstances allow
Bavarian Minister of Culture and Education, Michael Piazolo has also announced that school materials should be reduced and adjusted for students given the current circumstances.

Link with full plan as of now for everything else: Link

Long Island: 2 of 7 metrics met for reopening

Cuomo just said that 90% of the people being diagnosed with Covid are people that are not working and are staying home. So...what is staying home doing?

I just watched his briefing today and am alarmed at this fact. Who are these people who are staying home and still getting infected?!?!?!?!? How?? So then going to a grocery store DOES mean people can still be infected and wont show signs until 2 weeks later?????WTF!?! I just was starting to feel optimistic that maybe the people who were going to the ER now w/ Covid signs were health care or essential workers but now this statement has really pushed my anxiety level back to dark levels..Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I admittedly didn't get a chance to watch today's press conference, but "not working" and "staying home" are two different things, IMO, and I don't know if he differentiated that. I know PLENTY of retirees who are "staying home" but are constantly out and about. Even though they are exactly the age group who should be taking this more seriously.

Just because someone isn't working doesn't mean they live in a bubble 24/7. Unless he said that those surveyed were in fact actually AT HOME all day everyday.

I see plenty of people out and about in my neighborhood and they definitely aren't just families.
