Leaving kids on side of road
I could not believe my eyes yesterday. We were driving on montauk highway near bridgehampton and a jeep up ahead of us pulled off to the side of the road and two kids got out - I would say aged about 7 and 4 and the driver - the mom continued to drive along the hardshoulder with her indicator on - indicating to move back into the line of traffic and leave the kids there
I was in total shock! I really couldnt believe that she was doing this.
Dh and I kept a watch in our rear view mirror as traffic was slow and we could see the kids running after their moms car YES running along the side of the highway.
Eventually the car stopped and she let them back in.
I dont know but this really disturbed and upset me. I was hoping the car would pull into the shopping mall where we were headed and I was going to give the mom a piece of my mind -I am sure she would have told me to pizz off but I wouldnt have cared.
I know some parents threaten to put their kids out on the side of the road but I couldnt imagine someone doing it on the side of a very busy road and then driving off.
I can only imagine what would have happened if a car had hit them
Some people just shouldn't have kids

WHAT THE &(@&(*!@&(*#&!()*!!! I WOULD HAVE FLIPPED OUT! I think I would have stopped my car and asked the kids to get in.
I truly believe in not judging people because it's hard to be in their shoes, but this is just downright STUPID & DANGEROUS!

I completely agree!!!!
Plus picking up the kids and putting them in MY car would maybe have taught their MOM a lesson.

That was in an episode of Desperate Houswives. Someone told Lynette to try that as a scare tactic b/c the kids were being horrendous! Kicking , screaming ,fighting.- So she let them out- and drove around the corner--- BUUUUTTT this older lady saw the kids & what she did outside her house and took them in - so when Lynette came back - they were gone! Scared the crap out of her!!
Things like that are fine on TV - but in the real world!!? People need to wake up!!! Anything can happen in an instant & wouldn't that Mother be regretting her actions then!

Growing up my Dad always said, "do I have to pull this car over?"
Once or twice he did but he NEVER made us get out on any road never mind Montauk Hwy. If she was truly ready to loose it she could have pulled the car over and given them a warning to calm down or they were going straight home.
Those kids could have easily been killed by another vehicle

OMG!! me too!! And then call the police. I'm sorry- no matter how frustrated you are you never put your kids life in danger like that.

She definitely wasn't on drugs. She was a very respectable looking lady in her late 30's. I was in the back seat of our car trying to keep my DD entertained and I just stared at her with my mouth open as we drove past. I was really in shock at what I was seeing.
Juts goes to prove that although you may appear to be "respectable" you could be a complete psycho behind it all.
With hindsight being what it is we should have pulled over and taken down her license plate number and called it in. But to be honest we were both so shocked we were just watching it unfold in the rearview mirror in total disbelief like I am sure all the other cars behind us were.
I just feel so bad for those kids as I am sure they were scared shitless and its bound to have really upset them.
