just a vent
The other night I accidentally slept with 2 pillows when I always sleep with one. I woke up with a stiff neck, but the neck isn't so bad. BUT, the neck pain led to this AWFUL pain under my right shoulder blade that I can't take anymore. I can't lay down at all because it makes it so much worse. Last night I "slept" in a chair. (more like napped for 2-3 hours, was up for 2-3 hours, and napped again for 2 hours). I keep putting icy hot on my shoulder blade, but dont know what else to do, besides hot showers, which only help for a short amount of time. I know the pain will go away eventually (I have had this before and it usually lasts a week) but I am almost 38 weeks pregnant and am terrified of going into labor already in this pain. ugh!

Re: just a vent
MOIST heat is the best thing for muscle pain...the moisture helps penetrate the actual muscle...
dampen a towel with hot water, put it in the microwave for maybe 30 seconds and drape it on your neck/shoulder.
i'd like to tell you to take aleve - but i don't think that's good for us...(i had spinal surgery - so i know QUITE a bit about PAIN)...

what kind of spinal surgery have you had? I had 2--a fusion and a discectomy. Aleve and lots of advil (like twice the normal dosage) used to work for me. But we can't take that, and I haven't even taken tylenol this pregnancy. I'll try the hot towel :)

i had a spinal fusion as well - c2 to c3. I had a pinched nerve compressing my spine. It was the ONLY time in my life i was scared by a tech. I had the MRI or cat scan (can't remember anymore) and the tech came out and said, 'you can't leave until we talk to your doctor'. It didn't help that it was like 7:30 pm and i knew the doc left at 6. I have had a TON of tests before and it's always - thanks for waiting, we have what we need...so that freaked me out. Within 2 weeks, I was in surgery...
but - before having that scan or mri -i walked around in EXCRUCIATING pain for 2 months - no strength at all in my right arm, my neck pretty much attatched to my shoulder - as that was the only comfortable position...
