I always put the car back, IMHO, pure laziness not to, kids or not

I take my kids with me to return the cart or better yet, look for a spot right next to the corral

my local shoprite doesn't have a corral? Then what would you do?

You return it to the front of the store.

None of the supermarkets naer me have cart returns. We return the carts to the front of the store (where, IMO they belong).

I always return the cart regardless.

Last week I had dinner at a restaurant that's in the same shopping center as the grocery store. I go to get in the car and see that someone put their cart directly behind my trunk leaving an inch of space b/w the cart and my car!!! If I didn't see it I obviously would of damaged my car but whose to say it wouldn't of hit someone or someone elses car!!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I've seen this happen. What they heck are people thinking?

Really, leaving it in back of someone else's car?

That just is so wrong. If I saw someone do that I would totally call them out and embarass the crap out of them.

I always, always, always return the cart either to the cart storage or the curb in front of the store. Wherever carts are herded.

I always park next to the crat station when I have my kids with me. Otherwise I make sure I am parked next to grass so I can push it up on there.

similar situation....

my mom is handicaped and I brought her to the supermarket the other day

I went into the store, grabbed one of those motorized carts and went to drive it to my car to let her get into it

the damn thing dies RIGHT behind someones car....now, of course I could not leave it there so I tried to move it...I guess since it had no power, this thing was IMPOSSIBLE to move...I nearly killed myself trying to drag it from behind the other car...I finally did it but....Chat Icon Chat Icon

I always return the cart. I try to park close to the corral, but if I can't get a close spot, I put the kids in first, then the groceries and then I return the cart (I lock the car doors and practically RUN the cart back if it's far Chat Icon)

I always try to put them back in the recepticals. First I put the kids in the car, then the groceries, then I put the cart back. Even if it means I have to run a few feet to return it.

I either take Logan with me to return it or put him in his seat, lock the car and return it.

But as evidenced by a parenting thread a few weeks ago, this makes me an extremely irresponsible mommy who doesn't really love her child. Chat Icon

Re: Judge Judy & Shopping Carts - I wanna hear YOUR thoughts on this.

I'm not reading all of the responses. I wonder if this is a two part question....do I have an obligation to return the cart....is it ok to leave my kid in the car while I return the cart....

Yes, I feel that as a good citizen I should return the cart so that no one's property get damaged, I'm not blocking anyone else's ablility to park, etc. I think nowadays people are in a hurry to get where they need to go and have become very self-centered. Is the extra 30 seconds it takes to return the cart gonna kill you?

Yes, I feel my child who has been strapped into his car seat and is in a locked car is safe enough for the 30 seconds that it takes for me to return the cart. We're not talking about going into a store and leaving your child alone unattended for an extended period of time.

I think hail, rain, children, tornado's, etc. are just excuses people make up themselves feel less guilty about doing what they know to be the right thing.

not that this hasn't been beat to death on LIF, but YES I do return my cart with my kid. I do this in rain, sleet and any funky weather. I PERSONALLY find it just plain lazy NOT to. But to each his own...

I always try and park next to the "return cart" thingy!
I usually do my shopping while DS is in school and I only have DD with me.
If I am far from the "return cart" then, I go to car, unload groceries, push the cart back to the return and carry DD back to car, infant carrier and all!

Re: Judge Judy & Shopping Carts - I wanna hear YOUR thoughts on this.

where we live in FL i am almost positive that the shopping centers have workers who return the carts - i LOVE LOVE LOVE it b/c i never have to return a cart...

these people actually come grab the cart from you when you are done unpacking if they see you.... and i rarely see carts left out - so it can't be that everyone returns them - it has to be that these people are in charge of the carts down here...if they see you walking with it they meet you and take it before you get to the cart return...so i am convinced it is their job...

if it wasn't like this i would pack groceries, with the kids in the cart, then carry them back from the cart return...but really i probably wouldnt go food shopping with kids - i would ask DH to go on his way home from work or i would go myself when he got home from work just to avoid the hassle of going with the kids...but i dont have kids yet so who knows - but i can see myself trying to avoid carrying groceries and kids at the same time b/c it scares me - i can barely carry the bags now! why return them? There are people who are hired to do this and if I do it, then I am taking away their jobs...

Not all places have people who are hired to collect carts in the parking lot.

Where we shop they are usually one of the young guys who unload the delivery trucks. They come out a couple of times throughout the day to gather up the ones left around.

In the meantime, some of those carts are rolling into cars because of the wind or other people pushing their cart into it because they don't feel like walking it back.

Just bring them back - its not hard. Chat Icon

For the most part yes, I return it. If I don't I put it on an island where it won't roll into someone's car.
