It's interesting how the older my Mom gets,

the more she remembers past moments that I've never heard about before!!!! Yesterday, I took her from the confines of the nursing home, to eat lunch out, and she revealed two past moments, that I wrote down when I got home. They aren't spectacular, but I love hearing them!! She told me her Dad and Mom, while in the middle of a move, encountered a snowstorm. My Grandfather was stuck at the house they were moving from, while Grandmother and children were at the new place. Then, as we were discussing her baby Brother and pictures taken of him, she said a photographer had taken a picture of him, standing on a chair. Now, armed with this bit of info, I want to ask my Aunt, if they have that picture!!! My DH and I were discussing this quality of Seniors remembering their pasts more, even while forgetting what they had for lunch. I think it's really fascinating, and wonder how it's possible?? Mary

It is amazing, sometimes I think why did I never hear this before. My Mom will tell me the same story about a recent thing 10 times a day.

Laurie, my Mom does that too, and then, she'll just bring up something I've never heard before !! Some of the info around that move of my Grandparents, was that my Grandfather was trained at a very young age to work in a machine co. but, twice, for whatever reason, he tried his hand at farming. That particular move was to a farm!!!! Grandmother said he was no farmer, and she knew, because she had grown up on a farm!! But, he eventually went back to the machine shop, working there almost his entire life, except for his brief adventures in farming!! The thing that bugs me the most, is right before Grandfather died, he told me something that he never wanted me to forget, but being an eight yr. old, I forgot!!! Chat Icon Mary

Re: It's interesting how the older my Mom gets,

I take care of my 88yo Grandmother and she does the same thing. I am always hearing stories I have never heard before. Some of them are very interesting. My favorite is the one where her and my Grandfather went into the city one night during the war to a well known club. While there they met some soldiers on leave. One of them took a liking to my Grandmother. She spent the night dancing and talking with him and at the end of the night they had a picture taken together. He said he was going to take his copy back with him to Germany so he could show off his "girlfriend" to his fellow soldiers. Love that story!
