Is my son the only 6 month old not sleeping through the night?
My son will be 6 months next week but he is still not sleeping through the night... needless to say, I am exhausted and it is getting harder and harder for me to get up in the morning... I think the exhaustion has finally caught up with me! he still wakes up about every 4 hours to eat... for example, last night he went to bed at 9:30pm, up at 2am... fell asleep around 3am and up at 7am... any advice? words of wisdom? anything to give me hope

My son is 17 months old and still doesn't sleep through the night. So, feel better that you could have it worse...

DS is almost 8 months and wakes several times a night, sometimes after only sleeping for an hour or so... I have no idea why...

I'll be honest with you... my DS does the same thing... but compared to getting up every 2 hours, I am actually happy he is only getting up once a night!

I think my son has too much energy lol he is such a restless sleeper, he travels in his crib all night long... sometimes he will just end up in the corner, he cant roll and wakes up! the thing is, he doesnt know how to fall asleep on his own... we have to either rock him to sleep or we put him in a bouncer... sometimes I just keep thinking that maybe it is our fault for not teaching him how to fall asleep on his own, that we made a mistake by rocking him to sleep

Have you tried not giving him a bottle. We kind of slowly weaned Emma away from a during the night bottle @ about 6 months old.

I wish I knew the answer to this... DS DOES know how to fall asleep on his own - he does pretty much every night, it's after he initially goes to sleep that he starts waking and sometimes won't go back to sleep in his crib. Even when I rock him, he falls asleep almost instantly, but the second he hits the mattress, he's up and crying. DS is also a restless sleeper. He travels all over the crib and when he gets wedged in a corner, etc. he wakes too. But sometimes it's for no apparent reason that he's waking...

I have tried giving him something to drink only but he would drink it all and then scream cause he was hungry...

How about "topping him off" before you and DH go to bed? DS would fall asleep around 8 and than I would give him a bottle before I went to bed and it would get him through the night. Eventually I just cut it out and it worked.
Have you started him on food yet? When is his last feeding and last bottle?

I dont think it is a mistake, but definetely a habit now. I established a routine with DS almost immediately. I feed him his last bottle holding him in the rocking chair in his room with the lights off. When he is finished with his bottle I put him in his crib. When he "caught on" he would cry and whine but eventually he just started falling asleep on his own. I wouldn't let him cry for more than a couple of minutes at a time but eventually he would tire himself out.

Have you started him on food yet? When is his last feeding and last bottle?
he eats cereal in the morning, fruit at lunch and veggies for dinner... he usually falls asleep around 8-9pm but wakes up around midnight for another bottle...

last night I put him to bed just to see if he will fall asleep on his own... sure enough he started crying and screaming until he began to choke

I feed Michael as often as he wants to eat during the day (hence he weighs 16lbs. 13 oz. at almost 3 months ) but during the night he only wakes up once and doesn't even cry just squirms around in his Miracle Blanket, which is what makes me get up. All kids are different I guess...some need to be rocked others don't. I don't think its your fault but maybe start weaning him off of being rocked to sleep. My mother told me some horror stories how she had to rock me for hours and therefore I don't rock Michael but he falls asleep on his own anyway...I just lay him next to me until he falls deep asleep and then I place him in his crib.

ok..........I am in this bad club too........almost at 9 months both*******babies do not sleep through the night..we put them in different rooms because they last straw was the night I counted 11 x between the two of them and I got up ALLLLLL ALONE********I wanted to kill someone.
now...I sleep with one...dh sleeps with another.they still get up but not 11x.

mine has not given us ONE night sleeping through! couple that with a 2.5 year old who hasn't really ever slept through the night - I'm surprised I haven't lsot it from lack of sleep.

DS is 5 months and still wakes several times a night..I dont know if its teething, formula, gas etc..and I rock him to sleep and BF all the things your "not" supposed to do..but he's so small!! LOL

last night I put him to bed just to see if he will fall asleep on his own... sure enough he started crying and screaming until he began to choke
I would start a new routine with him. Feed him his bottle at 8 (rock him for a couple of minutes after until he burps and to relax him) than lay him in his crib. he is going to cry and scream. Leave him be for 3 min., go back in to reassure him, let him cry for 4 min., etc. It is hard...it took a week but DS got the hang of it. If he is waking up at 12 than I would try to give him a couple of ounces around 11 or before you go to bed and see how he is. Once you est. a new routine I think he will be ok.
