I don't commute anymore but I do love hearing commuting stories.

I can't lie, I definitely miss the Friday train in the summer. It was the train to Sayville.... ie, the train with all of the beautiful gay, impeccably dressed men on their way to the Grove.

Re: Is it time for more rude LIRR stories?

Chick wants her friend to sit with her and wants me to swap with her friend who is in a middle seat and I'm on the aisle. She next asked the guy on the window if he would swap and he said no.

Originally, she asked me to get up so she could go in the middle seat and then would not let me sit back down as her friend was waiting to sit in my seat. She had the nerve to ask me if I was sitting there. Really? Am I a figment of your imagination?

Same chick is leaning on me because she can't sit in her seat the right way. Conductor comes to collect tickets and she hands him 4 tickets. All of which are used already. She is now leaning across me, her hand on my arm.

She pays for tickets.

Guy in back of me has his feet under my seat pressing up. He is talking over the guy in the middle seat to the guy on the window.

Same chick has her bags poking my leg because she can't sit in the middle of her seat.

Ipod boy is listening to Jay-z five rows in front of me.

Lastly, same chick just asked me move to a newly vacated seat (aisle of the 2 seater) next to me at Jamaica so her friend could sit next to her. I move. She thanks me.Then the son comes over too and she looks over at me. I looked back at her and said one of you two should get up and let your son sit. That doesn't happen.

The two women end up talking at a mile a minute never coming up for air, competing with each other talking over each other for the next 30 mins. I shush them, they quiet down for 5 seconds.

Guy in back of me in the middle seat gets up to stand because he can't stand being in the middle of the two guys talking over him.

Wow, just wow..does anyone have manners?

Nothing you can do about this but baby screaming non-stop for 50 mins. That was just the icing on the cake.

I encourage you to share your stories.

This is after I ripped my skirt on the rubber arm rest yesterday.

Re: Is it time for more rude LIRR stories?

I take NJ transit and the subway. Every day Im ready to curse someone out. I have no F**** patience for this sh*** anymore. and im 31...i feel like im to young to feel this way.

I have a pair of nutjobs at my local rail that i see every day and now i just go across to my side of the platform rather than wait in the little house/booth area and deal with them. They're so nosy and talk so loud that when they ask me questions about DS its like the whole world knows. One of them was trying to start an inhome daycare. when she saw i was very pregnant, she talked about it for weeks, gave me her #. all she saw was $$; The first day back to work i see them and the 2nd question out of her mouth was "what did u do about daycare". i wanted to say "well i didnt call you right??" ughhh...

Im really trying to find a local part time job b/c i cannot deal with the BS much longer.

Im so sorry you had to deal with the triple whammy at once..

YIKES!! I hate days like that!! It makes you NEED a drink by the time you get home! As if work doesnt make ya nuts as it is, sometimes the commute is worse! I give you credit for actually being nice and moving.

I gotta say my biggest pet peeves are the fat people who sit in seats where their butt doesnt FIT, the people who eat smelly a$$ food, the people who smell like they bathed in their cologne, or the ones who feel the need to have conversations with ppl on their cell the ENTIRE train ride! <~Unless its a jerry springer sort of convo...they make the ride interesting LOL

It's always time for rude LIRR stories! My husband & his co-workers refer to a guy that will take a middle seat as a "DIM" aka Dude In the Middle. They have major train discusisons over who got DIMMED today.Chat Icon

Since my commuting, overweight husband pays for his ticket each month - why wouldn't his butt belong in a seat or seats, if the LIRR doesn't make large enough ones?

I take the 7:29 am from Hicksville everyday. There is a group that takes up a 6 seater and 4 seater across the way. They talk loudly over each other the whole way in. No consideration for anyone on the train at all. They are the rudest people.

Re: Is it time for more rude LIRR stories?

i know when DW started taking the train 3 yrs ago, there was a group of ladies that "reserved" seats (a full 6 seater) for their friends who got on 3 stops AFTER DW got on the train... they wouldnt let her sit even if there was no other seats!!!

That's just a rude and immature comment. I take it you are probably one of the riders who also have no manners.

That's an exceptionally rude comment you've made.

thats how i read it to be. Not that heavy people dont deserve to sit, but they make it uncomfortable for everyone when they try to sit inbetween 2 people and there's not enough room.

This was one of my biggest problems when i used to commute all the time...I hated having to ride the entire time with someone basically sitting on me...it was awful...I am not sure what the correct solution for this is...I happens on any type of public transportation...plane, trains...its just uncomfortable.

Actually I do have mannners and when I see that there are barely any seats on a train and my only option is to either SQUISH between 2 people in a 3 seater, SQUISH next to someone who has tons of bags and needs a seat and a half or stand.....I will stand. Now Im small and I can evaluate when I can and cant fit in a seat without making myself or other people in the seats uncomfortable. So rather than making someone uncomfortable along with myself being uncomfortable, I would stand. Whereas alot of the times people dont evaluate how much space their body actually needs.

I ALWsYSSSS sit next to someone who decides to call every person they know to "catch up" at 7am or the person who feels every person in the the entire car wants to hear their biggie song.

I mean this in the most respectful way possible...there has been plenty of times when i have had to stand because several overweight people had taken up 2 or even 3 seats , i pay over 300 bucks for my ticket, is that fair? I dont want to be squished ontop of ANYONE in 100 degree weather (man, woman, dog, fat, skinny, poka dot)

Susan - did I ever tell you I emailed a guy's boss to tell him to get off the phone or use the vestibule? I never heard back from him but for sure he got the email. The seat you are sitting on a train with a cell phone doesn't turn into the cone of silence....Chat Icon

I agree with you and did the same thing when I commuted. My point was that there is a more tactful way of saying things.
