Is it rude to leave a note with instructions for your cleaning person?

Does anyone leave a letter with instruction for your cleaning person and if so what do you ask them to do?

It seems like my friends cleaning lady doesn't like to be told what do to....

Not rude.

They are working for you.

Now, you may want to watch HOW you say things, you still want to be respectful.

I don't think it's rude. If you aren't there to direct them to what needs to be done, how else will they know what really needs to be done?

ITA.

I have a lady come once every two weeks. If I think that a certain area needs more concentration..(i.e. dusty baseboards) I kindly write it and even say please.

She appreciates them as well.

I don't think it's rude. I used to write notes WEEKLY begging her not to do our laundry. I think it was ruder that she ignored them.Chat Icon

I even translated them into Spanish for her.

If I had to leave a note for my cleaning lady, it would look something like this...

"Please don't pass out. Please help me. PLEASE..."

OK , so I just logged on after writing a note with instructions to my cleaning lady and I see this post! I swear, it is true!!!Chat Icon

So, no, it is not rude! But as mentioned, just make sure you phrase things in courteous manner and add a Thank you so much for your help ! at the end!

What do you all have your cleaning person do?

And what all does he or she not do?

Would asking her to clean the ceiling fan blades be to much to ask?

My cleaning people do the following (in no particular order): dust, vacuum, dust blinds and windowsills, change the linens on the beds, wash bathroom, kitchen, and wood floors by hand, clean kitchen (floor, countertop, sink, appliances, inside microwave, inside toaster oven, stovetop, polish the stainless steel, etc.), empty all trash cans and take the trash out, wipe down equipment in the gym, polish wood furniture, clean bathrooms thoroughly.

They do not do laundry and windows (though I could pay extra to have the windows done).

I don't think asking them to dust the ceiling fan blades is too much to ask if they can be reached easily. (If you have cathedral ceilings, then I think it's a big much to ask Chat Icon)

not at all. I do this with some of my employee's because I found when things weren't getting done they'd say "oh, I misunderstood you" when I verbally told them. Now I do both so there is no miscommunication.

Re: Is it rude to leave a note with instructions for your cleaning person?

Not rude.

I should have left a note last time saying "please don't empty the DIRTY dishwasher and put the dirty dishes into the cupboards.

P.S. what kind of dumbarse do you have to be to NOT notice the pieces of food hanging onto the utensils and plates? Chat Icon

I don't find it rude, but rather a NECESSITY, so that you are both on the same page. Chat Icon

Re: Is it rude to leave a note with instructions for your cleaning person?

I don't think it's rude. My parents have always had a cleaning lady and if there's something specific they want her to do that day and know they won't be around for when she gets to the house, they leave her a note.

Conversely, when the cleaning lady needs supplies or something, she'll leave them a note saying she's out of whatever, can they purchase more.

I look at the notes as a way of communicating if you can't be there in person.
