Re: Is it possible for dogs to get sick of there food.

that could be the problem right there- Human food- Kristin you should never give your dog human food they can get very sick from it and develop what are called fatty deposits/cysts among other ailments. Our vet said to NEVER give the dogs table scraps of any kind. even the bones- they can choke. Sounds like your doggie only wants to eat human food now and of course his treats. Mix some wet food with his dry to trick him to eat his food again.

I've heard that in small doses carrots, apples and cherios are ok.

juney--what kind of food are you feeding rudy? I think dogs can get sick of their food. I know my dog did. We switched her from pro plan to nutro at about 5 months because the same thing was happening and since we changed it has been fine.

Re: Is it possible for dogs to get sick of there food.

We give Misty occasional table food, usually if she behaves while we eat we throw a piece of meat in her bowl.
As far as not liking the food - I know when we got Misty her previous owners were feeding her Iams and we started her on the same stuff. She would never finish what was in her bowl, it would sit all day. She ate less than two cups of food a day. We switched her to Beneful(a friend recommended it) and she loves, loves, loves it. She gets all excited when we are getting her food and eats it all up in one shot.
So, Rudy may just not like the Iams...try something different, but make sure to introduce it slowly and not all at once.

Re: Is it possible for dogs to get sick of there food.

My dogs are big fans of the Eukaneuba Adult Lamb & Rice formula. It's dry but we always add some water to it. Dry food will expand in your dogs stomach and could sometims cause bloat. So we add the water to the bowl first and let it expand there, and not in their stomach.

Re: Is it possible for dogs to get sick of there food.

We feed our dogs Nutro large breed adult lamb meal and rice formula and as puppies the puppy food -same brand and flavor.

My vet and breeder said that table food is not healthy for dogs. They only ok'd peanut butter and 1 teaspoon of it to put on their bones.
I know when you are eating and your dog looks at you you want to share but like I tell my DH when the dog gets sick from it you'll regret giving it to them. Now since we got our boxer he NEVER got table food and till this day he does not beg or even bother us when we eat, however b/c DH did with our american bulldog she begs and will lay by your feet hoping for a crumb which pisses me off, b/c when the kids come or company I dont want the dogs to take food out of the hands of a baby or bother my guests.

I would change his food or try the mixture of his current food with a can of wet dog food. good Luck and remember youre the boss, and no the dog should be eating right away, it should not be leaving his food, maybe he isnt feeling well too?

We use Iams dry and a few drops of olive oil - great for his coat and joints, and he looves it.

Wow!!! He eats 4 cups a day!!!! Misty weighs 60 pounds and gets about 3 cups a day...maybe it's too much food? Check with your vet and see how much he should be eating.

Do you feed him all at once? We feed the boys in the morning before work and at night after we've had dinner.

Maybe it's just too much food all at once for him since he's still a baby??

Good luck!

WOW!! I am convinced Iams just wants to sell A LOT of dog food!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Those suggested amounts seem like soooo much!
They want you to feed a 10lb, 6 week old puppy as much food as my 80+lb adult dogs are fed!! Chat Icon

If Rudy seems to be full when he eats, is having "normal" poops and is thriving & growing, I woudn't worry about the "suggested servings" ...

My dog is 10 and he still will not eat if he is alone. Someone has to be home and preferrably near his bowl for him to eat -- he makes us come downstairs with him!
