remember, when Gulliver traveled....

Is it customary to register for the following items for your baby shower?

all furniture (crib, dresser, changing table)

all room decor (wall art, valances, curtains)

mattresses

I am finding this odd but I don't have a baby so it could just be me..

I'd like to know if it's just me...

TIA

I did for most of those things. The ONLY reason I put the furniture on my registry was b/c if I didn't I would forget which one I wanted. There are SO many different styles out there. I did not expect someone to buy that for me, though MIL offered, but we'd already bought it.

My parents and in-laws split the cost of DS's furniture so I didn't need to "register" for it. People put stuff on a registry for any potential buyers. I don't see anything strange about it.

Thats pretty normal, IMO. I registered for furniture, but it was just so my parents and in-laws would know which one I wanted.

Yep, perfectly normal. Most parents/inlaws/family members buy the furniture.

WIth my first I registered for everything but the furniture. We bought the crib and changing table ourselves.

Same here. Both our families aren't in the area, so it helped them 'see' what the room could potentially look like.

Our parents bought our furniture but everything else you mentioned was on my registry and my glider.

I registered for room decor, but not furniture or mattresses. We chose to buy that ourselves.

I didn't but I think it is normal. I think usually the parents or grandparents are the ones who buy it.

I did NOT want to register for furniture.. I felt so WEIRD doing it! But my sisters insisted and it worked out because my furniture was all purchased for me!

I agree, I did put my mattress on after my shower to try to use a coupon on it, but I never got the coupon.

I was going to say this- you get a discount off all the things on your list that didn't get purchased for you.

Re: Is it customary to register for the following items for your baby shower?

I would never dream of putting those things on but I don't come from NY.

DH's side all asked why they weren't on there and my family would have been appalled if they had been.

So the short answer is I don't think it's unusual in this neck of the woods.

Re: Is it customary to register for the following items for your baby shower?

I didn't register for furniture bc I didn't want to buy furniture from BRU. Even if I did, I doubt if I would have put it on my registry. That being said, I know many people that do, so I think it is pretty common. I did register for the nursery pieces...valance, basket, teddy bear, pillow, etc. I actually think that makes a very nice gift for someone.

Re: Is it customary to register for the following items for your baby shower?

Many people do but I did not. I only had the changing table on my registry, My MIL went with us to look at cribs & when we found one we wanted she bought it for us.
