I don't think that's a lot for what they get but I think that a field trip like that should be for something special - like 6th grade graduation or 8th grade graduation. It's a lot to ask for just a regular field trip.

It is for 5th grade graduation, 6th grade is middle school where we live

In that case I think it’s not bad at all.

OMG $90 for a field trip?!?

My daughters 5th grade trip is going to cost $35 and I’m having sticker shock. If I want to chaperone, it’s an additional $30.

So yeah... $90 for a school field trip after the amount I pay in school taxes and to fundraisers is ridiculous... and I’m a teacher.

I think it is worth it for the experience alone. When I was younger, I went to a catholic school in the city (all field trips were to adventure areas -- nothing related to learning)...my parents moved me to long island in 6th grade...we were studying the french rev and my school took us to Les Miserables and a Chinese theatre -- as immigrants I would have never had the opportunity to see a broadway show at that age...especially b/c my parents were unfamiliar with such events.

honestly, 90 is usually easily spent on crap at target...worth the expense, in my opinion

Reading the title, I was ready to respond - OMG, it's insane for a field trip.

But, for what the trip entails, it's not bad.

It’s a lot of $. I don’t casually spend $90.

Whether it’s “a lot” with all the details depends on the demographics. If it’s “worth it”... is another question in itself.1

For the experience and being a 5th grade graduation, I don't think it is a lot. We have overnight trips in our school, but families know about them ahead of time to start saving and making payments. Also, other families can sponsor and the school will find the way to pay for the kids that can't. At the end, I think it is for the kids experience being with their friends and classmates, doing something fun.
