Re: im scared.. please talk to me about inductions!

I was induced with my DS. I just needed pitocin though, no cevadil. It was not bad at all. I did ask for the epidural early b/c I have a LOW tolerance for pain.

I am sure you will get many different answers as each and every child birth is different.

Dont worry and try to relax. I am sure you will be fine. Hang in there and remember after all the aches pains pushing and breathing is a beautiful baby to final hold in your arms. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: im scared.. please talk to me about inductions!

I started off with cervadil the night before, I had mild cramping that was painless. The next morning I was given pitocin, I don't remember when I started to feel the labor pains. I remember them being very close together and hurting. I have a very LOW TOLERANCE to pain also. When I begged for the EPI, with thin 15 mins it kicked in and I was in HEAVEN Chat Icon I went from 5cm to 9cm in 1 hour and was ready to push.

I am not saying it can happen to you but you never know how your body will react to the cervadil. That helped soften up my cervix because I was a 1/2 cm for a whole month and finally hit 1 cm the week I was due.

The labor sucked only before I had the epi but after that I had a great delivery. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: im scared.. please talk to me about inductions!

Everyone's experience is different. Mine was pretty good-- I got Pitocin at 1:30, was ready to push at 5pm, and had my DD at 5:55pm. However, many people I know have been induced and ended up having c-secs It seems that if you are dilated and effaced, your chances of a successful induction are pretty high, but if you are not either (especially effaced) you may end up with a csec. Good luck either way!!!

I was given Cervadil Sun. afternoon and then pitocin Monday AM.
By 230PM or so, I only got to 2cms, so, I had a c section.
Not bad at all.
I was not dilated at first and rarely felt contractions.

Re: im scared.. please talk to me about inductions!

I just went thru something very similar. They brought me in last Tuesday for an induction for hypertension. i wasnt dilated and about 50% effaced. My OB told me it was totally up to me how long I want the induction to go.

At 11pm Tues night I receved the first Cervadil. At 11am on Wed they took it out, did in an internal and I was 1cm dilated. About 60% effaced.

They inserted another one and 12 hours later took it out and I was exactly the same!
Chat Icon

At this point my ob gave me the choice to go for section or continue with cervadil. The reason was bc I was having pretty severe contraction for the entire day Wed but really made no progress for the amt of contraction and frequency/ severity.

I chose to do another Cervadil. A 7am the following am (another full night of severe contractions,) my cervix did budge, so at that point he recommended a section.

I am not trying to scare you but just keep in mind it may or may not work. Jut let your OB know you wishes and have them work with you.

Honestly the contractions I were having were very very severe cramps. At first it as tloerable but after 30 hours it wasnt. I had them give me half a dose of stadol about 3 times just bc I needed to sleep. Dr was afraid that if I did wind up dilating I would be too exhausted to push bc I wasnt sleeping at all.

The stadol made me fall asleep immediately but it also made me dizzy so we did half dose and it worked oot much better.

Good luck to you!

BTW- C/S worked out fine!

Re: im scared.. please talk to me about inductions!

I also had the cervadil around 5 a.m. and it did hurt when they put it in but it's bearable. I was only a fingertip dilated but my water had begun to leak the night before. My 1st cervadil fell out when I went to the bathroom a few hours after they put it in, so they put in another one. I never remember getting pitocin...I don't think I did. But I know the second cervadil had me dialating more quickly. I asked for an epidural around 3:00p.m. after earlier pain relief meds didn't do a darn thing except make me tired.I didn't start to push until 10:00 at night and had him at 11:16.

Re: im scared.. please talk to me about inductions!

This may sound weird but I love that I was induced. I got to let everyone (friends and family) know what was going on in advance. I was induced b/c I had GD.

So they admitted me around 11pm and by 1am they put in the cervadil. Then I slept til 6-7am. I woke up and it felt like I had bad AF cramps. I didnt even know it was labor until the nurse told me. Chat Icon

An hour later I had to go #2 (sorry, TMI) but the cervadil thing came out! The doctor said it was ok, it did its job. They started me on Pitocin after that and I was still fine until they broke my water. Then labor pains HURT! But thats what the epi was for!

Good luck!

Re: im scared.. please talk to me about inductions!

I was induced with both my kids.

Both times ceridival first and then pitocin and I had a wonderful wonderful experience both times.

My induction started around 8 pm at night and both my girls were born around 11 ish the next day.

If I were to do it again - I would in a heartbeat!

Good luck!

Re: im scared.. please talk to me about inductions!

I was induced with DS#2 when I was 3 days late and had a vaginal birth. It was a great induction, got cervadil overnight, then labor was just over 6 hours from when I got the pitocin to when the baby was born. I

Good luck!

I was positive that I would need a C section when my dr decided to induce me. I delivered vaginally.

I got the Cervadil around 5pm on Wed. Water broke at 2:15am Thurs. The cervadil had to be fished out...I can't lie...that hurt. Epidural and pitocin around 9:15am. Baby was born at 5:20pm.

No worries....you will be fine!!!Chat Icon

Re: im scared.. please talk to me about inductions!

I was induced when I was 7 days late and not dilate at all! Not even a hint of going into labor on my own.

So I went into the hospital around 6pm and they started the cervidal around 8pm. I was fine throughout the night (DH went home.) The next mornin I was a fingertip dilated so they started the pitocin. I started getting some very mild contractions but nothing that was earth shattering. At 9pm they checked me again and I was still only a fingertip dilated. So, they let me decide to do 1 of 3 things: 1. Go home and come back in a few days if I don't go into labor on my own. 2. Do the induction (cervidal and pitocin) again for another night. 3. C-section.

I opted to do the induction again b/c I didn't want to opt for Csection if they were saying both the baby and I were fine. So I started the cervadil and in the morning they checked me. Still only a fingertip dilated Chat Icon . But, this dr (now my 3rd b/c the shifts kept changing) was small and had small hands. So, she was able to get in there and break my water. INSTANTLY I went into active labor. But, it was not as bad as I thought it would be. I concentrated during each contraction and I focused on my breathing.

At 5cm I took the epidural. And, I slept for about 2.5 hours!!! Best thing I could've ever done. When I woke up I was 10cm!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon I started pushing about 30 minutes later and after 45 minutes of puching DS was born!!! Chat Icon

Overall, I was very pleased with my induction. It was NOT as painful as I thought it would be (or as everyone said it would be). Stay calm, get the epi if you think you might need to, and relax while you wait for your DC to make his/her arrival!!!!

Listen you are going to hear ever story under the sun. I know I did...I even had a family member call me a day before my induction and tell me I was going to cause brain damage Chat Icon

I went in having complete faith in my doctor, hospital and most importantly my body. Both of my kids were born from inductions and flew out in 5 and 3 pushes respectively Chat Icon There are plenty of great induction stories out there and I know you will be one of them. Good Luck to you!!!

Re: im scared.. please talk to me about inductions!

I was induced. I went in on a Sunday night at 7 pm at 915 pm they started the Cervadil. At 315 am my water broke and I was having contractions. I dilated on my own pretty well and was 8 cm dilated (without pitocin) at around 3 pm. Then they gave me some Pitocin so I would dilate further and DS was born at 5:55 pm. I got the epidural which I definitely recommend. It stalled the contractions somewhat but made them much more bearable. I was very pleased with my induction experience! Good luck!
