I'm awarding myself worst mother of the year award

Chat Icon This morning, as I was taking JAG to school, I locked him in my car Chat Icon We had to call 911 and they had to come and break into my car to get him.
I suck. I can't believe I did that and was hysterical by the time the truck arrived.
Luckily, the fireman (heros!) really helped me.
Additional PSA...if you only have one key for your car GET A SECOND one made Chat Icon

Don't beat yourself up. It can happen to any of us. The worst mothers are the ones that don't even remember their child is in the car!

Please don't beat yourself up over thisChat Icon My SIL DS did this on vacation- he got locked in for over an hour as they tried to get him out with a slim jim. It was a rental car so it only had one key.

Don't feel too badly(even though its impossible not to). He is ok and so are youChat Icon

I did this when I went to pick her up at daycare. Luckily DH was at home and was able to bring me my spare.

Re: I'm awarding myself worst mother of the year award

I know how you feel bad but sometimes things happen, believe me I know about 2 months ago I locked myself out of the house with DS inside the house.

We had just moved into our new house and I didn't realize that DH had set the front door to lock automaticly when you close it, so when I stepped out to get the mail the door closed behind me and it locked. I was beside myself, I didn't have a cell phone or anything with me, so I tried every window on the first floor and nothing, so I took a brick and broke the window of the back door. Chat Icon

Fortunately I could see DS the whole time.

Ugh, well I can now say I know how you must have felt.
The firemen told me that you would be surprised at how many times they answer calls like this but I am not sure if they were just trying to make me feel better because I was on te verge of hysteria.
He didn't get hurt and I learned a valuable lesson but I think it's going to take me quite a while to get over this.

These guys were BUILT. They must make them work out everyday. Some were older some were younger but...ummm, well, I'll just say it. They were all HOTTIES!
Maybe I was just attracted to the men "saving" my son.

I can't imagine how scary that was but he's fine & he got to hang with firemen, which is every little boy's (um...and woman's) dream.

I still remember my admin having a severe allergic reaction & I had to call the fire department.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon sigh...my new admin isn't allergic to anything Chat Icon

Someone else just posted about this happening to them on the board. My cousin in FL did the same thing with her son when he was a baby. It happens. Don't be too hard on yourself.

I have also done that with my son when her was a year old. Very scary at the time but I now can look back and laugh at the situation. My son (now 7) remembers nothing of that day.

Re: I'm awarding myself worst mother of the year award

Deb Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I am sure this will happen to many more of us on here - you have no idea how much I think about that everyday - I was so paranoid during the hot summer that this would happen, I wouldn't let go of my keys EVER - but its because I know I'm capable of doing that at any moment...

Trust me- I have thunked poor Cailen's head enough against the top of the car putting him in, I am sure I have earned enough bad mommy credits myself!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Maybe i'm biased because I am married to one, but most of those men have hearts of gold and like nothing better than helping a hot mamma and her adorable little boy.

It happens more then you would think.

A friedn did it when we went to lunch, and my mom did it to my boys.

My dad was the one freaking, wanting to punch the window in.
