I'm addicted sugar!

So this is the first time I even clicked on the non family related boards. I was thinking I should start working out again.

I had a baby 9 weeks ago. My weight is back to the way it was before I got pregnant, according to the scale, but I definitely could lose a little more and get toned.

My problem is that I'm addicted to sugar. Chocolate candy, bread, cookies, brownies. Once I start I could eat a whole bag of those reeses eggs! Chat Icon I think I should just stop altogether since I wont be able to cut down.

Any suggestions for a first time dieter? I need healthy snacks or something.

I feel your pain - up until recently I was a eat on the run, shove anything bad in my face kinda girl. Then I looked at myself and went - whaaaaaat?????

Its really a matter of discipline and finding stuff that fits into you life. My brain is usually in 17 places at once and I do find it difficult to stop and grab something healthy - it is hard.

What I've done is research - tried to find the best lifestyle change that fits my schedule. I am doing a modified atkins type diet but using the portion control of weight watchers. I just started b/c I was having problems finding something that worked but honestly, this is easy for me. It forces me to keep GOOD things in the house - I make my list for 2-3 days - I make a conscious effort - I drink my water. Heck, tonight I did 45 minutes on the elliptical while watching AI Chat Icon

You know you want to do something and that is great - its a wonderful motivator. Start small - think before you eat - cut out soda - drink more water. Put the baby in the stroller and go for a nice walk. All these little things will add up and as you get comfortable you can make more and more changes.

you will be surprised once you stop eating sugar how little you will crave it. I cannot sit down and eat one cookie or candy I will eat the whole thing. The less you eat it the less you will want it. I try once in awhile to eat dessert but, I try to stay away because I have no control. Read up on the effects sugar has on your mood, and how you feel after you eat it. Notice when and why you crave it. It will help you gain control of your addiction.

I totally understand your problem and feel your pain.
I've cut down on sugar a lot but I'm still addicted.

I cut out sugar once in my life (I mean completely, I didn't even eat fruit and no artificial sweeters). I lost 35lbs. But it was SO hard to elimiate it...it took weeks for the sweet cravings to go away. I remember making a run to 7-11 just to get myself some chocolate cake b/c I couldn't take it, like a drug addict!. I've tried multiple times to do it again but I just can't stick to it. Once I did come off the sugar though, it was amazing, I didn't even crave fatty foods or salty foods too much either. I've kept the weight off now but I am back to eating sugar, just not as much, and really limit things high in fat and sugar.

My advice, clean out the house. Make a list of all the things you could eat "the whole bag or box of" and get rid of it!!! And never ever buy food on the run! Buy small things like pre-made/portioned sugar free pudding cups...Those are really good w/some whip cream on top...allow yourself one snack a day with sugar....just one...or limit your "sugar" food to a certain number of calories (100-200) and stick to that per day.

Dont eat high carb for bfast, I find that ruins my whoooole day.

excercise. If you hate it use it as a punishement for eating too much lol

It takes soooo much willpower but I know for a fact that if you are able to cut it out or cut it down, the less you crave it.

I just thought of something else, get yourself some protien bars...Think Thin has some good ones....no sugar. I snack on a peice of them when I need soemhing sweet. Or the Atkins choco peanut butter bar...they taste soo good!

I'm no expert, and not a DR, but cutting out sugar all together does not sound healthy at all. I am in the same boat as you... my issue is bread for the most part. But its the sugar in the bread that gets me. You just need to do things in moderation. If you dont think you can do the 'just one reeses egg' thing, then dont have them in the house (thats me, and i cant have them at all, or I know I WILL eat them all). Try keeping fresh fruit in the fridge, cut up and ready to snack on. You need some sugar in your diet and I was always told to eat fruit. Good luck!

Where do you buy the Think Thin bars? I have eliminated most sugar from my diet to (following the Belly Fat Cure by Jorge Cruise) and they are totally recommended, but can't find them anywhere?

I do have the Atkins caramel chocolate peanut nougat bars with 1 g sugar and 1 serving of carbs and they are great!

I eat a plain greek yogurt that I sweeten with Truvia at 8am-ish...(100 calories but lots of protein) then an apple around 10/10:30 to get me to lunch at 12pm or 1pm if I can wait..but I usually cant wait till 1pm.
