I'm a Mommy to a beautiful baby boy!
Hi everyone!
I've been off for a few days just enjoying every moment with my son.
If anyone remembers I was due on 10/12 & scheduled for an induction. Sunday start of Cervadil & Monday am Pitocin. Well, nature decided otherwise. I woke up on Saturday morning with cramps. They came & went about every half hour. Didn't really have a clue what was happening just went with the flow. DH went to work & asked I keep him updated. I had plans with my Cousin for the day & still really didn't think that this could be it. As the day went on the cramps were becoming more & more like contractions for sure. I stayed out all day - timed the contractions - even walked the mall for a good 3 hours to keep things moving along. It was comical. I'll go into more details of everything when I post my birth story, but about 11:30 DH & I decided to call the doctor. I was checked out, one doctor wanted to admit me, the other said keep walking & come back in 2 hours because I was only 3 cm. We head down to the parking garage & walked about another 1hr. By this time I could barely walk, leaning on poles, cars, DH - you name it. In between contractions I felt like I was sleep walking - they came closer & closer & finally I said enough. We went back up only to find I was still at 3cm. At that point I wanted to die. The contractions were getting much stronger, but I wasn't progressing. They decided to admit me & start me on an Epidural, Pitocin & break my water.
Once the Epi was started I felt a bit better. They attached all the internal monitors & broke my water. Soon after the Pitocin started - it went right back off because the contractions were getting so bad that  's heart rate dropped. It turns out that the contractions continued to remain so strong that his heart rate kept dropping without the Pitocin. That's when they decided a c-section was necessary.
At 7:52am on October 18th the love of my life was born. DH & I feel we are truly blessed. He's so well behaved & thankfully took to breastfeeding like a champ. His birth weight was 8lbs 1oz & he was 21.5 inches long.
Oh - and gotta love the growth sonos - according to our growth sono our son was 7lbs 5ozs at 36wks. According to their calculations he would have been over 10lbs at 40wks - I went 41. Well, he was 8lbs 1oz. So don't panic when you here the numbers at your growth sono!
I recommend keeping the baby with you as much as possible when you are in the hospital. We never used the nursery - we were lucky enough to deliver at Stony Brook where all rooms are private & DH could stay with me every night. He actually never left the hospital once. It made our "first night home" a relaxing one because we all knew what to expect.
