If your 2-2 1/2 year old gets Speech services
What does the therapist do with them during the sessions?
DS goes to Speech once a week through our insurance, as he didnt qualify through EI. I feel like its play therapy. I was hoping the therapist would work on his articulation issues, but she told me they dont work on that until they are 3. So maybe Im expecting too much

She's right. At his age it is more play therapy. But I do remember DS speaking more clearly after some therapy...not sure if that is age related or therapy related. Now he is 3 1/2 and getting speech and they are working on sounds and articulation.

there may be some indirect speech therapy going on during the language-driven play-based therapy.

Its true they do not work on articulation three years old. At two its more language development. If your child has articulation issues he may qualify at three.
All speech therapists are different. Our first three stunk, our fourth was a awesome. Prompt therapy was very effective to improve my son's articulation.

This is why I wanted know others' experiences. I dont know if we should find another therapist, or just continue with this one.

If you are not seeing the progress you want, I would move on. Honestly, I am a sp ed ei therapist and I would not settle. That is why I went through 3 therapists in 9 months and stuck with my last one until my son was discharged. With the first 3 therapists I saw little to no progress and knew it was time to move on. The first day my son went to the 4th speech therapist she taught him to say spiderman beautifully when previously all he said was fiheran. I knew we in the right place then. But like pp said 2.5 is a little young to work on articulation. What is she working on? Receptive or expressive lang development?
I would expect progress within 3 months.
