If you live in North Babylon off Deer Park Avenue

specifically, Prarie Drive. Have you noticed the DEP - The Department of Environmental Protection a block before the park digging up a hole? They are digging about 6 ft away from the curb in front of a house in the street,the hole is rather large and they are collecting the sand from the ground. I am talking barells of sand.. to me it seems they are testing for something, perhaps a contaminant, but what? It's a residential area. Not close to a gas station or a dry cleaners.. I don't live there but I have family that does.. I think as the home owners, they have a right to receive straight answers as to why they are doing this.

I just spoke to my family. They questioned the DEP yesterday afternoon and apparently years ago there was a gas station not too far from there. They are looking for a leak underground. They claimed they are testing all over the neighborhood not just in front of their house. When a family member of mine askied if they could receive a report of the test results of the dirt after testing is completed, they told him that he could go to the Freedom of information act for that... Also, the same family member recalls that the DEP was at the Belmont park last summer testing the water.. wonder if there is a connection there.. Anyway, this does seem fishy to me..

I know exactly where you are talking about. Yes there used to be a gas station (not sure if it is still there) on the corner of Prairie Drive & Deer Park Avenue. My dad used to have a store right next to the gas station.
