In contract - North Babylon w/pic :)
I love those words!!!! After a horrible shopping experiences and several unsuccessful attempts we have found a great house!
It is a fixer upper, but we are looking forward to making it our own. It's a 3 bedroom ranch in North Babylon, Phelps lane section. We got an AMAZING deal on this house since the owner is due the first week of Jan and is a rush to sell her house and move to GA.
We are set to close 1/5/06, but I doubt the title, etc. will get done so quickly.
Now for a closing question....
My lawyer said we wouldn't know the closing costs until the day of. Is this true? I thought I read somewhere that they had to tell you the day before

We found out the friday before- we closed monday morning...but it was last minute friday..i had to find out- the banks are closed during the weekend.

The lawyer should tell you the day before so you can get cetified checks from the bank.

we got our closing costs about an hour before our closing...we then had to go to the bank...get the checks and then on to the closing!!
talk about STRESS!!!

We are so excited. It turns out friends of friends live on the same block as us. We know 2 houses already. The area is great, I can't wait to start renovating the place!

My lawyer told us that the morning of he would call with an exact number. We only had to get one check for the total, he said let the banks atty write the individual checks, there making enough money on it. BTW, I loved my atty.

Our lawer paid all fees and then we paid her afterwards. Worked out great!

they are supposed to tell you the day before, but ifd the numbers come in really late they will tell you the day of

Congratulations! What a relief, right?
We found out the costs on Friday afternoon. Got a check on Saturday from the bank. Thankfully we brout our check book though because we had to write a check for even more money!  Needless to say, DH was not very happy! Of couse, I am in NJ so I don't know if LI is different.
