if you have your mom or MIL watch the baby during the week...
do you pay them?
DH and i want to ask his mom to watch the baby 2-3 days a week when he/she is born and i go back to work next january. she works with DH's dad so her schedule is pretty flexible, and DH is home 1-2 days during the week, so if we had to find PT day care we could.
i am just not sure if i should offer to pay her, and if so, how much.

Both my mom and my MIL watched my DD we didn't pay either one. My cousin also watched her and we DID pay her--about $6/hr.

My mom watches DS 5 days a week and we want to pay her... but she refuses.
The compromise we came up with is we give her money for the gas she uses to get to and from our house.

My parents watch DD 2 days/week and we don't pay them.
However, if they were watching her in place of a job and NEEDED the income, I definitely would pay!

my mom and mil watch dd (2 days and 3 days) and we do not pay them...we are generous with gifts to show them how much we appeciate them...neither worked full time prior to watching dd

My MIL retired to watch our DD & watches her between 3 & 5 days a week. She refused any money we offered.
My mom also watches her 2 days a week most weeks. She'd be insulted if I offered to pay her

We use both my mother and MIL and do not pay them...there is no way they would accept money from us. We do try and do nice things for them sporadically (tickets to shows, etc.)

Right now, we pay my mother(a reduced rate) . She didn't want to take it, but I figured people should get paid for the work that they do!

My dad watched DD one day a week and refused to take any money. We provide his lunch and DD gets him special presents on holidays or whenever 'she' feels like it.

We will try to take them to dinner every now and then. Also if I cook something she likes the night before I make extra so she has lunch.

same with us. And my SIL has 2 days. I offered and they all got offended. When he was a baby I did supply the formula and baby food. And diapers. But now they just get everything.

my mom watched DD from 2.5mths(when I returned to work) -9 mths, she passed away at that point...but, she wouldnt accept any $$ throughout that time. I would just buy her a small gift every now and then to thank her (GD to have her nails done, etc)

My mom watches DS 4 days a week and my MIL watches him 1 day. We dont pay them, they would never accept money from us. We are very grateful and thank them in other ways, tickets to a play, gift cards to restaurants, send flowers etc..

My mother stopped working to watch my DS when he was born. I gave her $140.00 a week, which is low compared to daycares and other sitter services.

My mom watched my boys when they were infants and would not accept money. She would usually bring us dinner too. Sometimes she would let us make her supper.
I offered to pay - but she refused so I never got to the $$ amount part.

Last summer my FIL watched DS while I worked PT. I worked M-F but only about 3 hours a day. I also had another job that my FIL would help out, or, my mother would. Neither got paid, however, at the end of my summer job we got my FIL a Gift Card and a bottle of wine.
