Are there any that HAVEN'T been recalled? Ds is climbing out of his crib, and is NOT ready for a big boys bed. I know this, because we tried and it was a nightmare. He was scared of it. I ended up putting his crib front back on.

He did it again this morning, amd met dh in the hallway. I need to keep him in his crib.

Any SAFE rec, would be appreciated.

Are you having trouble finding one, or just finding one that isn't recalled?

If you can't stop him from climbing out I would seriously just make is safer to do so..like put a mattress or pillows where he jumps out of the crib.

Other than the tent, I haven't heard of other options.

While I'm not a fan of multiple transitions, I know a lot of people that have put the mattress on the floor for the first week & then moved it to the toddler bed.

Could you take the crib mattress out & have him sleep on it on the floor just to test it out?

I do think you need to get him out of the crib before he takes a bad fall.

can he reach the doorknob? if not, I'd just close the door to his room and put a hook eye lock on the top so he can't get out.. that running outside after your DH would have me go crazy

I don't have a child this age yet, but climbing out of the crib sounds really dangerous to me. I'd probably figure out a way to just have him sleep in a bed, mattress on the floor, etc, whatever works. I'd be scared he'd fall on his head trying to climb out of the crib. Good luck!

I thought you were trying to get him to not climb out of the crib. If he's wandering the house or worse can outside, definitely go with the hook and eye high on the door.

He can and unlock it and open it. I said to dh to put a lock on the outside. He doesnt want to lock the outside door so ds doesnt get scared.

I know he (ds) would have come right into our bedroom, and climbed into our bed. I just dont want him in thereChat Icon

He wouldnt wander. He would have just come into our room. He cant unlock the top locks on the outside doors, plus we have an alarm set to instant just incase, anyone trys to come in or go out.

I would put padding by the crib- those foam play mats work well, totally babyproof the room, then install a baby-gate (the kind that screws in so he can't open it!).
Good luck!

If they are still being sold, how are they recalled? I have seen them in BBB. If it is used correctly, then there shouldn't be an issue with it... Make sure it is attached properly and securely... It is the only way if you can't do anything else..

Tent cribs cant be used on cribs where the front and back are not the same height. If you have turned the crib around and you are confident the mattress is on the lowest setting (we THOUGHT it was and it wasnt) then nothing is going to keep him in. I say convert the crib to a toddler bed (with rails) and baby proof the room. I also would get him used to sleeping with the door closed (and locked from the outside)! You might have to do the equivilent of CIO the first few nights but I am sure he will adjust to the new routine. I am going to be very unhappy once DS is not "confined" safely to his crib anymoreChat Icon

Re: I know the whole crib tent thing has been beat to death, but Im at my wits end.

how big is his room?

we took off the face of luce's crib and it's actually right up against our bed (which I am sure you won't do but as marcella would say, I am a grande punan Chat Icon ) BUT, if say you were going to put a "big boy bed" like a real bed, in there also maybe you could take the crib front off and put it up against the real bed.

unlike Barb, I am a HUGE fan of transitioning. I don't like anything that effectively "pulls the rug" directly out from him.

our "plan" is to eventually move him bed an inch away from ours every week or so until he is back up against the wall, so he gets used to it.

right now he is going down fine in his crib but starts crawling up in to our bed during the night. but he LIKES his bed and I think that is b/c for him, the slow ease into it made him comfortable.

I am no expert but it's going ok so far (knock on wood)

Re: I know the whole crib tent thing has been beat to death, but Im at my wits end.

Both my kids had to be on crib mattresses on my bedroom floor.
There was no other solution...Josh would just scream like a nut...gates at his door did not work, even 2 on top of each other.
Jessie could just play in her room in the dark all night long. She stacked her books to reach her window...she scares me with her blinds.

In my room-I say go to bed, and just like that they go to bed.
I hate having them in there

If my kids were climbing out of the cribs I'd just bite the bullet and transition to the toddler bed.

Yeah, def not putting his like punk hiney in my room with the crib, hell to the noChat Icon

His matress is on the lowest setting. He is a very stubborn child. Even if I turned the crib, so the high part is in the front, I have zero doubt he could get out.

His room is a decent size, but if I put the crib against a twin lets say, it would be too cluttered in there. THAT would make ME nuts.Chat Icon

Im just going to put the 1000 pillows I dont use around the crib tonight. Hope for the best.

He isnt ready for the real big boy bed yet. The conversion on the crib, to the front off the crib totally tripped him out.

If the pillows dont help, I may need to find that bedstrap belt thing Mommy Dearest used on her kid in the movie.Chat Icon

Re: I know the whole crib tent thing has been beat to death, but Im at my wits end.

Jenn, being honest, I am AMAZED he made it this long. He needs out of the crib. Why not put him in the toddler bed with the gate on the door. If he barrals, through the gate, he gets in trouble (ie time out), etc. Personally, a couple of nights of "tough, supernanny, crazy love" should do the trick. Every time he gets up, you quickly put him right back in, non-stop.

Liam gets up, and comes right into our bed at around 7AM so it works for us. The transition was smooth, but for naps, we HAD to do the tough love approach and eventually it worked.

. At 19 mos we couldn't get our little monkey to stop climbing. Put her right into a twin with a gate on her doorway. When she knocked the gate down, we got the kind that drills into the doorway. I know you don't want to hear it but when they won't stop climbing, its time to get rid of the crib...its gonna be a few tough nights but he'll get it eventually.

You know I'm in hell with Ty right now.

I have a high gate at his door. He sleeps on the floor for naps and even bedtime now. Sometimes we transfer him succesfully to bed at night - other times he goes back on the ground. How about a gate that screws into the walls?
