I got a job!!!! DOE people, come in - UPDATED WITH QUESTION

Just got the call that I got the job! DOE.... So..... Tell me what it means that my school is a "TOT" school? Also, salary, benefits, I didn't get a chance to ask any of those questions. I have a MS and I'm not sure how many years I'm getting credit for.

Any and everything you can tell me about what to expect next is appreciated!

UPDATE:

I was offered the job verbally on Friday (and received an email from the principal welcoming me).

How long till I get the email from the DOE telling me what to do next? I am literally sitting here awaiting instructions. My new principal is on vacation this week and I REALLY need to know what is happening so I can give notice at my current job.

What should I do?

I work at a TOT school. All that means is if you get rated effective or highly effective for the year you'll get an extra $3,400 the following December.

When you apply for salary differential that's where you put that you have a Master's you need to give them your transcripts. I walked them in to 65 Court. Depending if you have other teaching experience you can enter that in for your salary step and see if they accept it. They accepted my 5 years in private school.

Benefits I believe you have to wait until the school year starts and the payroll secretary will give you forms.

So what grade are you teaching?

That's great about the extra money for a good rating. I will have K, 1st or 2nd. She is not sure yet.

When will I find out about paperwork etc? She said something about that she had to send an email nominating me etc. How long does this process take?

My head is spinning I am so excited! I have 4 years teaching in private schools that I hope they accept as well as 3 years subbing and doing leave replacements.

I thought when I was hired for sub central that I gave them my transcripts but maybe now. I guess I have to go back to COurt Street... ugh lol

That's sooooo exciting! Congratulations! I've never heard of a TOT school and I've been Teaching in the city schools for 17 years. Best of luck to you!

TOT = Teachers of Tomorrow

Basically a school is a TOT school for various reasons. Poor test scores, high teacher turnover, very high needs etc.

Each year the list changes as schools improve or don't. Many schools. In poorer areas fall on this list.

That's great! What type of position will you be working in? I work at a TOT school for D75. You receive money usually in December for up to four years of you stay in a TOT school as long as you remain effective or highly effective. This will be my last year receiving it as I am beginning my fifth year. When I first started, my first check did not include my masters or my years of experience. I did get retro pay later on. Depends. It took 2 weeks for me to receive my nomination email. Others have gotten it quicker.

The nomination emails used to be handled by the networks, but those don't exist anymore. I would think the district office handles it now.

I had called and emailed the person in charge of the network back then to get things moving.

Congrats! Once your Principal nominated you on Galaxy, you should have received a DOE email with instructions on bringing your ID to Court Street and other paperwork.

You can check out the pay scale on the UFT website and the DOE site. There also should be forms on the DOE site under human resources that you will need to fill out and send in for salary step credits. I would get copies of your transcripts all ready to send out. Benefits will start the first day you start working but it may take some time to get your medical cards. I would ask your payroll secretary when you start about the medical and your UFT rep about the UFT benefits. Through the UFT you have vision, dental, prescriptions, etc. Your correct salary step won't be in your first paycheck but they will retro you any money missed. Things take time with the DOE. If you ever call HR connect I suggest calling right when they open because there is usually a long wait on the phone. Good luck.

I called HR direct this morning and they do not have any information about me being nominated for the position. I called the school, and there is no one there.

I don't know what I should do now.

Email your principal and ask when to expect the official nomination.

Call the district or region office perhaps. HR connect won't have any info until they get your nomination from wherever it comes from now.

It's literally an IT guy for the network (they don't have networks any more) who send out the nomination emails.

I know this because they sent me the wrong nomination (wrong school) and had to get it fixed.

Thanks... I called the district office today and they assured me that the principal will be back tomorrow and that I'd have my nomination soon. I'm just anxious bc I have to give my 2 weeks notice by Friday.

Hi,

TOT school - new teachers get $3400 for each year they teach in an eligible, I think it's for 3-4 years. You don't do anything to get it. It will come like in October AFTER your first year, so 2017

Hopefully someone at your school got your social security number and directed you to apply at teachnyc.net - which you may have already done. If you have applied to teachnyc.net keep your eye on the email that is attached to that account. Once the HR person assigned to your school runs your social and the person who handles Galaxy intends you in the position you will get an email with directions. You'll have to go to downtown Brooklyn, for example, to verify your identity.

If you haven't applied yet to teachnyc.net do it now because that's how your information is transferred in. If your principal is the one that handles Galaxy at your school and he's away this process might take longer.

As far as the salary goes there is a process through the payroll portal that you have to complete to get your differential. You probably won't be able to start the process until after school starts because setting the system just takes a while. Starting salary is around $53 and you will need to submit your transcripts to get the masters differential. You can get up to 8 years of prior experience so it's possible to jump pretty high.

But I am already in sub central... I do not know what teachnyc.net is I have a DOE email address and have access to the teacher finder. I had a leave replacement last year and am an "employee" through sub central.

I know its the being sure about it part a king sure you have a job.

BTW 5he system being down, slow or fixed happens pretty frequently.
