I didn't use one and Noah had plagiocephaly. I put him in the exersaucer in the daytime, put his toys to one side, used a noggin nest and just tried not to worry too much about it.
At 8 months his head is starting to really even itself out. They have until something like 14 months before the skull starts to harden.
