How old was your baby when you first took them to a restaurant?

Just curious.
Before she was born DH and I had all these lofty plans of taking her everywhere with us.

But to be honest- I just cant imagine taking her to a restaurant the way she is now at 7 weeks old.

She is so unpredictable- some days she is great- eats and goes to sleep, sits quietly while she is awake, etc. Then other days she is horrendous- refusing to sleep, screaming bloody murder every waking moment, etc

I can't fathom having her in a restuarant because I just know she would start screaming half way through the meal.

What age was your DC when you felt comfortable taking them with you to dinner?

5 or 6 weeks. THe rest. noise lulled him right to sleep. It's worse now that's he's older. I would take advantage and go out while you still can!

DS was 10 days and DD was 1 week (Disclaimer: we always went at "off" times to ensure the restaurant was basically empty)

We always just try to time it around bottles.

Around 1 month old, after a Dr's visit..it was so much easier then than it is now lol...he stayed in the infant carrier and slept. Now he wants to get down, cries, grabs the sugar packets Chat Icon

God I am so jealous of this.
I just feel like she has these meltdowns- and it's always at inopportune times.
Sometimes she'll take a bottle and sleep like an angel for 3 hours...other times- like today for example- she fusses and cries ALL DAY LONG. Bottle or not.

I believe she was around 3-4 weeks. At first she just slept then that quickly passed ans she became a nightmare to take out

Now at 6 months, she's angel.
For now, of course lol

About 2-3 weeks old...if he started crying, one of us would take him outside and walk around with him until he calmed down so as not to disturb the other people in the restaurant. Most of the time he'd just sleep.

1 week old and havent stopped since...but to be honest, much easier in the earlier days...now its hit or miss but we can usually manage to find something to occupy him while we eat. There have been times though were we have had to take him out.

IMO, you just have to bite the bullet. It doesnt change when they are toddlers either. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: How old was your baby when you first took them to a restaurant?

I believe about 5 weeks - it was a small restaurant and DD was sleeping most of the time. Once we started we never stopped! It was much easier then than it is now (at 10 months).

He was 5 weeks old and we went to Fire Island - ferry, dinner, drinks - he slept through almost all of it.

DD is a December baby, so we didn't go anywhere until after Christmas - so @ 4 weeks.

Re: How old was your baby when you first took them to a restaurant?

I am going to say around 3 months.

I had a November baby and didn't really take him too many places until after his first round of immunizations. Then, he never really liked the infant carrier, unless it was in the car moving. I always brought a bottle the few times we did go, but I always found it stressful and I didn't enjoy it.

We had a window between 12-18 months where he would sit still for a while happily, but once he really could walk/run, he didn't want to sit for too long. We still don't really go out with him too much because he won't eat most foods and I find it too much of a hassle to pack up everything to take to a restaurant.

Re: How old was your baby when you first took them to a restaurant?

Me alone with friends, around 8 weeks or so. DH was afraid until I convinced him they would be fine, that was probably around 10 or 12 weeks. They've always been great in restaurants and I believe part of that is because they've been going since they were little.
