I would say my daughter was around 6 months old- it was not by choice. My DH works nights and I came home from work with a really bad stomach virus-I couldn't get out of the bathroom- there was no way I could take care of her so my Mom came and took her to her house so that she didn't get sick.

I was too sick to really be as depressed as I thought I would be-- I was just glad that she was away from the germs. The next time she slept out was more sad since I was well concious. I had to close her bedroom door and I was sad but each time has gotten a little easier.

At 2 months, Jared slept over my parent's house while dh and I went to a wedding. It went very well and we got some much needed rest.Chat Icon

Sammy slept out at 4 weeks old at my parents. They are the only ones I trust overnight. Sara has not slept away yet - she is 10 months

Re: How old was your baby/child when they first slept over someone's house without you?

@ 2 & 3 months old-

DS slept @ my parents'- DH and I had some very late events- and my mom couldnt sleep at my house- and I wasnt taking baby out to bring him home so late- so he stayed there...

My IL's are always asking for a sleepover-
At this age- I dont think its necessary unless its for mommy or daddy-

Oh i def hear ya on being nervous... i meant that I dont see the big deal in my MIL taking Jacob for one night.. Chat Icon the fact that he doesnt sleep thru shouldnt stop her... yeah right!

But in all honesty, I would prob feel nervous too if in fact she did ever offer to take him. I would prob worry all night about stupid things like what if he crys and she cant calm him down.. etc.. so basically you just have to feel comfortable with it i guess... Chat Icon

good luck!Chat Icon

She's 14 months and honestly I have no idea when I will even consider that. I couldn't imagine sleeping away from her. I'm just not ready.

My oldest is almost 3 1/2 and it hasn't happened yet. *Except* for one night at my mom's when I gave birth to his brother. Chat Icon

We just went through a big "to do" about this. We were going to a family party at my in-laws and DH's Aunt offered to take Charlie for the night. None of them could understand why I was not ready to be away from him over night. He was only 10 weeks old.

DD is 5 1/2 months and no sleep overs yet. Fh keeps beggin for a night away so I am considering it soon. Although she is going through separation anxiety so not sure if it would work out.

Re: How old was your baby/child when they first slept over someone's house without you?

My oldest was 5 months old and he stayed with my sister. She insisted on keeping him when I went to a wedding. I had expressed a ton of milk before I went and called her 1000000 times! But they did great.

My sister died 2 months later, and in retrospect it means so much to me that she had that bonding time with him...

ETA: My youngest has never slept away from home and he is 3!!

Re: How old was your baby/child when they first slept over someone's house without you?

Like 3 weeks old!

ETA: We had a wedding to go to and she slept at my parents' house. She did great. I have zero problem leaving her with my parents over night. They raised me and I have every ounce of faith that my daughter is in the best of care that she can be. I've also left her overnight with my sister, whom I also feel takes the best of care of my daughter.

At three months Roman slept at my MIL's while we went away for the weekend. I thought since he was a newborn it would be easier since he slept throught the night and all. He ended up not sleeping throught the night and I had to listen to my MIL complain about how tired she was, poor babyChat Icon

I think it was about 6 months for both of them. They went to my mom's. It was immediately followed by a MIL complaint of when is she going to get her chance. :shaking head: sigh...it's not a contest between grandmothers.Chat Icon

It took a long time & many DH arguments for me to get Joseph to sleep over MILs house. She had 4 cats and a husband who is a chainsmoker. It was bad enough that Joseph was a preemie with lung issues, I didn't want him subjected to that. She swore to me that he would smoke outside only. Later i found out my FIL smoked in a car with him, it took MONTHS before I would even consider it again.

It's a shame because they were my last resort on babysitting because of the smoking issue.
