How much to spend on neighbor's daughter's bday gift?
Last week, we met one of our neighbors on the next block. They invited us to their daughter's 4th birthday party. I liked the family and hope to be friends with them.
How much would you spend on the neighbor's child?
My kids have no relationship with their child yet. My 4yo son will go to the local kindergarten with the girl next year and be at the same bus stop.

$20-$30 is more than enough. I do $30 when I find something that is $25 before tax

As a general rule, I spend between $20-30 for birthday party gifts. The only time I go beyond that is if it's somebody we're especially close with (family members, etc).

Mom told me that the little girl liked arts and crafts. I got her a jewelry making kit plus a few small craft kits from Michaels. Bought $30 worth of merchandise for $20. Had a coupon for Michaels.

$25-$35 is a good number. I will go above that if I want to get something really specific.
I will ALWAYS make an exception for the 1st birthday. I don't know why, but I always like to do something very sentimental or fitting regardless of the price.
