How much is appropriate for a communion gift for our Nephew?
I gave my niece $350 when she got communion last year. DH wants to give his nephew 500  which I think is too much!
Thoughts?

That's nuts.
My son's Communion was on Saturday. The gifts ranged in price, but I think a nice gift for a niece/ nephew is about $150- $200. More than enough, and very generous.

WAY overboard.
I say $250 would be VERY nice and generous...

We usually give $150 - 200 for nieces and nephews. I think $500 is way, way beyond generous. If you are comfortable giving that, of course go ahead -- but that is more wedding territory than Communion territory in my book.

We did a $100 bond for my nephew this weekend. When it matures it will be $200. That is all we could afford!

I would also say $100 for a niece/nephew. DH & I have 12 nieces & nephews between us. We'd go broke giving more than that.

LOL see you know him, always excessive.
I'm like ENOUGH is ENOUGH with this. We're putting ourselves into the poor house to give kids gifts, its ridiculous! Every May and every Christmas its the same ole same ole...
We only have 3 nieces and nephews but DH also has a goddaughter. If we had more than that, the line would've been drawn a long time ago.

It does sound like a lot, and I don't nephews yet, but I only have one brother and DH only one sister so when we they have children I am sure we will be generous and give a lot also

honestly I would say $100 or $150 if you want to be generous. in my opinion, it's a communion, not a wedding. We just went to a communion party last week and gave $75, and I had to fight DH b/c he wanted to give less! lol

$500 seems like a lot of money for a child, but it's whatever you are comfortable with. I don't even give that much for a wedding.
I have to give a college graduation gift, and I wasn't sure if $100 was too much.

ITA...some couples didn't even give us $500 for our wedding! LOL Wow, you guys are generous! I think for a niece/nephew $250 max is a VERY generous gift!!!
