Ours went up $175 this year...our insurance compnay is saying that there was a NY rate increase in December 2009.

Just curious what people pay for homeowner's insurance each year?

Its going to vary for everyone who answers.
Rates are based on the dwelling amt, what deductible is taken, endorsements etc.
You arent going to get consistent answers. Best thing is to call you agent, discuss the policy and if anything can be done to help save some $.

Unfortunately working for an insurance company myself, yes, there was a rate increase for us as well.

Most companies arent even writing homeowners. Its been a very tough market.

most companies did have rate increases (esp. on LI) but usually a homeowners policy has a general increase from year to year for "cost of living/reconstruction"

Look at your policy from last year & this year - your dwelling coverage as well as Other structures, personal property and loss of use should have increased. If so - that's where some (if not all) of your difference came from as well.

HTH !!

I deal with about 15 different insurance carriers and I would say most took a rate increase this year, not all, but most....

I am hearing the waters are very warm right now, which is a bad thing due to hurricanes and tropical storms, so make sure your homes are properly insured. You should know what your hurricane cat triggers are, each company is different.

Ours went up about $200 this year. Since we bought the house 5 years ago, our premiums have more than doubled!

We haven't made any changes to coverage and we haven't had any claims.

You might not have requested changes to coverages, but most companies do it automatically.

Between that increase and typical rate increases, unfortunatly that's why it's jumped so much.

Why does it seem like everything goes up every year but salaries don't Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: How much do you pay for Homeowner's Insurance...apparently there was a NY state increase this year???

Yup, inflation has to occur every yr so the rate will always increase on your homeowners. (meaning the dwelling increases)

That with rate increases, big changes!
