How long does your baby sleep at night?

DD is great about falling asleep at night. We only really had to let her CIO 2 or 3 times, but she has always been pretty good. Our problem is that for the past few weeks she is consistently waking up at 4am regardless of what time we put her down at night. Should I be happy that she's getting 8-9 hours of sleep (she's 6 months) and just accept these early wakings or should she be sleeping longer at night, and later in the morning at this point?

If she needs more sleep, how do I get her to sleep later than 4am??? What do you do when DC wakes up in the middle of the night?

Thanks ladiesChat Icon

DS is sleeping about 8-9 hours per night. He too is getting up at about 4am every night. If I pick him up he will promptly go right back to sleep..either in my arms or in our bed. I keep prolonging the amount of time it takes me to pick him up in the hopes that he will stop waking up at 4. This morning he went back to sleep until 5:30..needed to be picked up and then went right back to sleep until 7. This is what I have done in the past with my older children. It has always worked before...

Re: How long does your baby sleep at night?

DD goes down between 7:30 and 8, and is up at 7:30 every morning.

BUT- she wakes anywhere from 1 to 2 times a night to eat- but she always goes right back to sleep after eating.

Boy, after reading these times, I feel so bad for my DD Chat Icon She's 3.5 months, and goes down to bed at around 7:30-8pm (she is practically sleeping while she nurses before then too)...but I have to get her up by 6am or so to get her ready to be out the door by 7am 4 days a week when I work. Poor thing isn't getting enough sleep probably Chat Icon

Re: How long does your baby sleep at night?

my DD is almost 5 months & since 6 weeks has had the same sleeping "schedule":

bottle @ around 8pm & then right to bed. She almost always falls right to sleep & doesn't wake up until around 6:30 am (weekdays - I have to wake her up to go to work) & 7:30-8:30 on weekends.

If she does wake up earlier, sometimes I just wait & she'll fall back asleep on her own or since she doesn't sleep with the paci, I'll put it in her mouth in the morning & she'll go back to sleep.

I know I'm lucky, though, & I count my blessing every night that she is that good about sleeping.

Re: How long does your baby sleep at night?

10 - 11 hours usually, but sometimes less because he usually wakes up once to eat and sometimes doesn't go right back to sleep. Also, sometimes he wakes several times for paciifer or sometimes even needs a little rocking. He's almost 6 months. We haven't done any type of CIO yet, but may have to if he continues to not want to go back to sleep in his crib when he wakes in the middle of the night. He goes to bed almost always easily at 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. It's the night wakings and not wanting to go back to sleep in his crib that are a problem. If I rock him or take him to my bed, he goes right out. I'm trying to establish health sleep habits, so I avoid this at all costs, but there have been a few times when I've broken down... Last night was a good night. Bed at 8 p.m., woke for paci at 11 p.m., bottle at 1:30 a.m., back to sleep in crib at 2 a.m., slept until I had to wake him to go to work at 6:20 a.m.

Re: How long does your baby sleep at night?

ok, I am jealous of you ladies....elaina goes to bed at 7:30pm and wakes every hour or sometimes every 20 minutes the ENTIRE NIGHT. I really don't know what to do anymore. DH will not allow any kind of medicine to enter her body and refuses to let her cry. I would LOVE it my DD slept 8 hours straight then woke up at 4am. Condiser yourselves lucky!

Re: How long does your baby sleep at night?

Another jealous mom here!!!!!! i have been posting about DD's night sleep a lot lately! Anyway, she's 4 months and on a GOOD night it looks like this:
goes down: 7ish
wakes to eat: 12 or 1am
wakes to eat 4 or 5am
Wakes up intermittently here and there from 6am then usually for good at around 8am
so i guess she sleeps 12 hours but with LOTS of waking up in between!

DD is 10 1/2 months and sleeps 8pm - 6:00/6:30am. She's been doing this for a long time now. I wish I could bribe her to sleep until 8am, but I'm grateful!!!

She has been waking at 1am and 5am crying, which wakes me - but she usually goes right back to sleep before I get out of bed.
