How long did you wait to tell DC you were PG with baby#2?

(fake screen name Chat Icon )

I will be 2 months PG on Christmas and will be seeing the whole family (that I don't get to see often as I live a few hours away).

My DD is 2 1/2 years old and I would love for her to wear the "I'm gonna be a big sister shirt" at the party. But I just got to thinking that maybe its too soon to be telling her this?

Did you all wait till you were past the 1st trimester to tell your other child/ren?

Our DC are older than your daughter. Ages 13-4...we waited until after the 1st trimester and the ultrascreen before we told the kids.

I told Julia right away! I told her she was going to be a big sister and that mommy has a baby in her belly, at first she looked at me like I was crazy--lol but now she loves to kiss my belly and talk to the baby..Chat Icon

We told DD #1(age 6) at 12 weeks. We have had 4 m/c's and wanted to wait till the Doc gave us the okay!

We told him at 8 months.

I didn't think he could distinguish "pregnant" from "fat" at his age. Since he was very verbal at that age (22 months), I was worried he would hurt someone's feelings.

Also, when you tell a small child they're getting a brother or sister, they think it's tomorrow & it's a 9 months is a long wait for them.

eta. CONGRATULATIONS!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I found out I was pregnant with DD#2 when DH was at work and I was dying to tell someone so I told Katherine at lunch--she was 11 mos. at the time and had no idea what was going on, but she did clap Chat Icon Oh, and she was wearing the shirt when DH came home! But really, throughout the pregnancy, I don't think she had a clue what was about to happen!

I don't know though...2 1/2 that's tough. I think my instinct would tell me to wait until after the 1st trimester is over. But knowing me, I'd probably tell her just so she could wear the shirt! I'm sorry I was absolutely no help! Chat Icon

Congratulations!!

That's exactly how I feel!!!!Chat Icon I think the right thing to do is wait but I don't know if I can stop myself Chat Icon

Thanks everyone for the good wishes

P.S. I can't believe how much I am showing already at 2 months. DD pats my belly and looks very confused about my expanding boobs (when she sits on my lap and leans back she keeps turning around and tries to move my boob out of the way Chat Icon )

Re: How long did you wait to tell DC you were PG with baby#2?

I told my DS he is 2 simply because he likes to wrestle mommy and kick when he is getting his pamper changed. When I ask him where is the baby, he pats my belly and gives it a kiss. I am 16 weeks, I have not told my DD who is 8 as yet because I am waiting for my amnio which is the week to come back so that I can be 100% sure everything is fine. I was preg. earlier this year and told her right away and then had to explain that there wasnt a baby anymore. when they are younger it is fine to tell whenever u want.

DS is 3 years older than DD. We started telling him around the 1st trimester. Basically, once DW started showing. We figured that once there was physical "evidence", he could start to understand.
