How long did you BF? Wondering what the difference between SAHM and working moms are.

DS is 6m old and was EBF for about 5 months. Now at 6m old he's getting about 50/50 BF and formula.

I've been back to work for about 2 months and pumping isn't going so well. My milk supply has dropped significantly.

Just curious how long the other moms breastfed.

DD was a preemie and I pumped for 3 months because I had to go back to work. I had realized that I would not be able to continue to pump consistently upon my return to work.

Working mom....went back to work when DS was 6 weeks. EBF until 6 months.

I went back to work P/T when DD was 3 months, and full time when she was 13 months. I never gave DD formula - just BM until a bit older than 14 months, then I introduced cow's milk. She was BF until 21 months when she self-weaned.

I was a SAHM for 5 months, and now only work PT. DD was BF for 5 weeks, given pumped milk and supplemented with formula until about 12 weeks, then was exlusively formula fed.

DS is 11 1/2 months old and I am still BF. He eats solids and nurses. DS has never had formula. I pump twice a day at work. Sometimes I struggle to get enough milk so I'll pump more often at home.

for DD i was a SAHM for the first yr. i BF'd 10 months
this time i have to go back when DS is 5 months and will start to wean then. i can't pump 2 work.

#1 - Went back to work at 12 weeks. Had to supplement in the very beginning because of preemie issues, but quickly changed to EBF/pumping. It lasted for 8 months until I supplmented. Continued BF'ing until 11 months.

#2 - back to work at 12 weeks. EBF/pumped for 5 months until I started supplementing. Continued until about 8-9 months

Working mom. I nursed Ryan until he was 14 months. I started introducing cow's milk around 11 months b/c I was pregnant and wanted him to start getting used to it before I weaned. I mixed pumped BM with cow's milk during the day when I worked and nursed a.m. & p.m.

When I first went back to work (around 4 months), I pumped 5x/day to maintain my supply.

DD is 7.5 months and I have been back at work full time for 5 months. We are still nursing but she does get some formula at daycare. My supply has never been wonderful so I just pump as much as I can and give her formula for the rest. It usually amounts to two 6 oz bottles of BM and one of formula at daycare. Like MrsPornStar I sometimes have to pump at night before bed to get enough for her bottles. If I don't need it for the next day I still pump once before bed and freeze it.

When I first went back to work and realized my supply would never allow me to pump enough to feed her exclusively with BM during the week, I went back and forth about whether to keep going. I finally came to the conclusion that it was more important to me that she have SOME BM every day for as long as possible and that it didn't have to be an all or nothing thing. It was mostly because I really enjoy nursing her and wasn't ready to give up that special time - I know she would grow equally well and healthy on formula.

My milk supply decreased dramatically after I went back to work too. My frozen stash is almost all gone, I may have 1 week left. After it's gone, I will have no choice but to supplement. He is 8 months now.

Went back to work at 7 weeks, Still BF at 11 months. Will stop at 1 year. Pump at work everyday 3X a day so DD has fresh milk for the next day.

I EBF for 2 months and stopped when I went back to work because I was also going back to school to finish my MBA. It was too much pressure for me. i wish I could have done it longer. I am done with school now so next baby will definitely be EBF longer.

I WAHM, babies are still being breast fed at almost 9 months. If I was working outside the home, there is no way I would have been able to pump enough to feed them both.

SAHM...Charlotte is 15m and we're still BF.

working mom - ebf til 6 months. Still pump and nurse at home, but my supply has dropped so don't know how much longer I can keep this up. DS gets one fresh, one frozen bm and one bottle of formula.

I will start with the fact that I'm a SAHM b.c I know that makes it much easier. With DD#1 I BF her for 13 months and only stopped b.c I got sick and needed medications that were contraindicated for BFing (and I was trying to ween her at that time anyway - she was only BFing before bed and when she first woke in the morning). I DID have to supplement with formula around 9 months b.c I was having problems pumping and couldn't produce enough milk to feed DD when we were out of the house (didn't feel comfortable BFing in public).

DD#2 I'm still BFing and I think I will be for a while. It is REALLY tough this time around b.c she refuses to take a bottle (we have seen Feeding specialists about it with no luck). So it is BM or nothing with her.

Honestly I give WM a LOT of credit if they can BF once they go back to work - while Bfing when they are home is one choice - I would think their supply would drop dramatically. Also pumping once you go back to work I would also think is VERY difficult. It is hard BFing when you are home - I give anyone who works and does it a ton of credit!

Ann is 12 weeks and I've nursed and pumped from the start. I've only been back at work two weeks and my supply in that time has dropped a bit but not that bad.

The problem I see is supply staying the same while her meals are getting larger. Luckily so far she's not a big eater and my production isn't that far off (and that I have a pretty decent freezer stock although I'm no longer producing enough "extra" to freeze).

I plan on keeping it up as long as I can.

working mom. my dd is 8 months old. i nurse in the morning, when i come home and right before she goes to bed.
I pump twice a day at work. i usually output about 5 ounces, hwich is one bottle worth. Isupplement with 1 or 2 formula bottles while i am at work.

i do the best i can.

my plan is to bf and pump for 6 months but I am not opposed to giving formula once in a while as I see fit

With Alex I went back to work 10 weeks post-partum and BF'd/pumped until she was 6 months.

With Yael I have a 6 month maternity leave so I'll wean her just before I go back.

1st son - Working FT BF for 1 year. Went back to work when he was 6 weeks old. I did however go to his daycare and nurse him at lunch everyday!

2nd son - Worked FT but only BF for 6 months. Did nurse at lunchtime again, but not the whole time.


For me, working didn't affect me BF'ing, but having a 2nd baby, you do things differently and are more lax about things!

Also, my milk supply didn't keep up with either boys though. They were just so big I didn't make enough. Not sure if work had anything to do with it?
