How do you deal with cheapness?

Okay, so I know that everybody spends thier money differently....but how do you deal with feeling uncomfortable/sad because your are with someone who is cheap on the things you wish they would splurge on?
My SO is a great guy, don't get me wrong. But he's really funny about money....it's hard to explain.....like he never orders the expensive items on the menu, unless we are out with his parents or something (they are picking up the bill). Money is not an issue, so I don't get it.....
Like he went to AC with his friends, and blew like $500 on 21, and for my birthday he only spent like $90 on my gift (which I love-but???)
How do I tell him that he sometimes makes me uptight? Is there a way to do this?

Do I sound like a brat?

Was at one time his family poor? I know sometimes people can be reserved being they are afraid they will lose their money.

But then there are people who are just plain cheap.

IMO, you don't sound like a brat... you both just have a different outlook when it comes to spending. I don't think that you can talk a person out of something they've done all their lives... I know many people who are frugal just because and will never change that. I mean, I completely understand having $ for a rainy day, but what good is that money if you die before spending it? Whatever makes me happy, is how I spend.

I think that if you bring it up to your SO, that it might be a sensitive subject...

Re: How do you deal with cheapness?

Well i agree, i don't think that i would be tooo happy that my DH blew 500 on gambling and then bought me a 90 gift. Unless that it was something you asked for or he thought you wanted.

I think i would just openly talk about it.

But i do watch what i am eating when i go out to dinner, like your DH. And will splurge a little when the parents a payin....I really do not see anything wrong with that...lots of people do it
