House in Franklin Square

This house was just built across the street (and down the block) from me. It's really nice. Only downside...it's built next to the faculty parking lot of North High School. Not loud or busy at all!!!!!!

Re: House in Franklin Square

This house has been with 3 different realtors already... It also has the SMALLEST yard I've ever seen.....
DH & I always walk passed it and wonder if it'll sell for what they're asking...especially being on the corner of the school.

OMG...did you see the other one on MLSLI...it's backyard is the school's baseball field...LINK

Ssshhh...I'm trying to get some nice new neighbors!!!Chat Icon
I know...they can't sell that house because of
a) the parking lot next door
b) the tiny side yard
c) the room inside are kinda small (I went to 1 of the open houses)

It's a pretty house. Someone's gonna get that for pretty cheap because of the downsides!

I also posted the other house. Sooo pretty from the front. I'd love to see the yard though. The baseball field and tennis courts are set back a ways so it might not be that bad with a nice high fence. I will definately go see it when there's an open house.

Where do you live? We must be neighbors!!! Chat Icon

Re: House in Franklin Square

Is this the house right before the overpass on Cornwell? I didn't even realize it was up for sale!! It's beautiful inside. But you're right. For this quiet area, that is a more busy spot!!

I LOVE the new ones being built on Brower and the one across from the school on Herman. I am TRYING to convince my husband to sell ours and but the one on Brower!! He says, "with all the work we've done to this house...we're NEVER leaving!"

When DH & I go walking on the track we ALWAYS loop around the neighborhood drooling over the homes. You can see the backyard if you're walking the track. It looks as though there's this small, but gorgeous patio on the second floor...like a stucco patio. The fence is very high...almost as tall as the house.

Re: House in Franklin Square

SD 13 is awesome. Willow road is an excellent elementary school. North High school is great too. It was ranked really high (don't remember the #) for LI high schools.
I don't know about Valley Stream Central at all (though their schools do well). This is VSN and it always does beautifully (hence the ridiculous taxes Chat Icon )

Re: House in Franklin Square

I meant that I didnt think it was such an expensive area - Just like East Rockaway - I cannot believe the prices of the homes in that area....

Re: House in Franklin Square

The area where I am (Morton Estates/ Dogwood section) has a very wide range. Cheapest you'll find is $400,000 which is a knock-down ranch. Houses go all the way up to a million+. Contractors are knocking down ranches and building HUGE colonials that are gorgeous!!! Median price for houses in this area is $550-$650,000. And well worth it...you should drive by the Dogwood section yourself to see!

North of the turnpike in FS is cheaper. Lots are smaller (capes). Some houses there might still be in the high 3's...but they are a mess. The median price on that side is betw $400-$500.

FS is expensive because it's convenient by highways, not in the boonies, and easy commute to city. But the very high taxes keep this community beautiful!

Re: House in Franklin Square

I am a teacher at the mentioned school and sometimes the prices of houses shock me. I love Franklin Square and Valley Stream for that matter, but I think you can get a lot more bang for your buck elsewhere. The price of the original house is ridiculous considering the location.

I used to work at franklin square ford and I drove down Dogwood everyday - I have to say that area off of dogwood is very nice....Also off of Franklin ave near Scherer blvd on the other side though is really nice too.

I worked on scherer blvd at J&t car detailing many moons ago - Anyone know if it is still there
?

I grew up in Franklin Square. My parent's just sold there house two months ago. In my opinion "The Square" is getting over priced.

Any new construction anywhere is way overpriced. I would love to get something new. I'm such a sucker for the hw floors and stainless steel appliances....

Re: House in Franklin Square

Seriously...where in Long Island ISN'T overpriced...unless you move out to the boondocks!!!!
FS is expensive...but that's because it is a convenient neighborhood to travel to and fro...especially from Queens. Also, in the Dogwood section...the neighborhood is kept beautifully. I have a neighbor who is an original Franklin Square resident. Bought her home in the early 50's for $11,000 (which she said in that time was very expensive also). She said that besides the homes getting larger and more beautiful...the area has not changed one iota! SHe said the "posh" FS neighborhood is still such a sought after locale because it still has that small town feeling...without being at the end of the Island. And...she's right! I love it here!
