What a bummer that it didn't work out. It may end up being for the best though - it sounds like you have quite a few options, and the first house you fell in love with being marked down is great. Good luck house hunting (again)!

That middletown house is BEAUTIFUL! The master bedroom looks so nice, with the fire place. Hardwood floors too 
I am interested in seeing the house that you were on this war back and forth over.....

I am interested in seeing the house that you were on this war back and forth over.....
the thing is this: the "love" house is beautiful and what I'd like my home to eventually LOOK like...but it's really cosmetics that are awesome.
the layout of the "lost" house and the land suit us more, and if they would have given us the FAIR price for it, we would eventually have been able to have it look like the "love" house...
the main problem with the "love" house is the dining area situation. it's small. and it's basically IN the kitchen.
the living room MAY be big enough to do a lr/dr combo, so we will be looking at that possibility when we go see it (for the umpteenth time) on Friday...we'd make the 3rd room (library) in the back a cosier living room/guest room and keep the front room a more formal entertaining/dining space.
the smaller land is another issue, but one I think we may be able to work with if the land BEHIND the house is something we could perhaps purchase down the road.
we LOVE the upper floor of the house, so it's not an isse.

In the mean time...we are gearing up to look at 5 homes on Friday...including my first true love...recently marked down
If you buy this house would you mind if I lived in that little house in the backyard? Thanks.

Don't stress. It wasn't your house. I seriously believe every thing happens for a reason.
Also the house across the street was a foreclosure. It was put up for sale through a RE it sat and sat and sat NO ONE looked at it. It had severe water damage. Someone finally bought it. She said she countered 60K less then the bank wanted and they said no and then 3 weeks later came back and said they'd take 60K less!
Where is Middletown?

Both houses are beautiful but I do love the 2nd house. I did the virtual tour and it made me love it even more.
It's amazing how much more you can get for your money just a little bit up north instead of long island. I wonder what those houses would cost in Nassau County!!!
I went to school in Newburgh and student taught in the Pine Bush school district so I am familiar with the area. I love it up there!!
