Holiday collections at work
Does your job collect? If so, who do you collect for?
I'm a teacher, and twice a year they collect for the secretary, cafeteria lady, security lady, and janitors

No; just a Secret Santa to those who want to participate. They also have a luncheon for everyone the same day as the Secret Santa Exchange.
The SS is supposed to be as close to $25 as possible.

There is a collection for our boss (I am not a big fan of this one) and for the woman that cleans our office

The only time we ever have collections at work is if someone is retiring. Never for holidays.

Holiday collections at work
In my old job we had a collection for the Admins and mailroom guy for managers and above.
my current office doesn't collect ( I also don't have the benefit of an admin in the office)
Collecting for the boss.... ugh, give down not up

Is this a smaller company? Do you all get bonuses, which would warrant this gift? I have been in Corporate America for a long time and always gifted down. Now, I may get cookies or something like that from the secretaries, etc. but never an actual gift.

I really am surprised at how many people give gifts to their bosses!
I was always taught to gift down, not up!
I give gifts to people who report to me, but never ever to my bosses.
I was very close with my assistant last year and he gave me a gift and I felt weird accepting it.

I have worked with my boss for 14 years through various jobs and companies. We are more like friends (or a dysfunctional family members who fight a lot most days! ).
He never buys me a gift for the holidays. Back years ago he'd get us all flowers arrangements (kind of like a Christmas centerpiece from the florist) but even that stopped now.
I feel like if he gave me a gift each year, I might get him a bottle of wine. Nothing big, just a small token for the holidays. Since he's kind of a friend too.
But no way. I work my butt off for him and put up with a lot and he can't even get me a token gift?
So yeah, no gifting up here!

So I should have said office manager, she is my boss though. She is very good to us throughout the year so the staff and the attorneys all put in for a gift for her.

Holiday collections at work
The office manager collects about $25 a person to get each partner (2) a gift from the staff. We do it every year as an appreciation to them.
We also get a holiday luncheon usually thrown at an upscale restaurant as well as holiday bonuses that day, so I don't mind collecting for the bosses.
Otherwise, that's the only collection we do.

To answer the OP, the Professors here take a collection for the Admin.

Holiday collections at work
I work at a school. Some people do collections but I do not contribute unless someone has really gone above and beyond. (I mean my chalk board has never been washed this year and frequently my room is not even swept). The only person I would consider giving to is the copy lady. She’s a life saver!!!
