Healthcare Reform
Please don't move to politics.
I hope everyone understands that the current healthcare proposal could affect employer provided plans. For example, if your state gets a waiver on providing essential benefits, such as hospitalization and maternity care, employers could purchase policies that exclude these benefits.
FYI. Peter King is voting in favor of this bill, so if you do not like this, you should voice your opposition.

Healthcare Reform
It may also impact all our kids' education. The reduction in medicaid funding may mean less money towards special education services in public schools which are partly funded through medicaid. That means less money to go around for everyone.

No, no. Don't fool yourself. Special ED funding WILL be gutted.
ACA is far from perfect, but this GOP plan will F everyone.
And don't forget the middle class looses in this. The GOP does not give a SHIT about you. I hope your kid wasn't born with any issues because they wont ever be covered with those pre-existing conditions.
If you voted GOP and have pre-existing condition know that YOU are removing that coverage from everyone, including yourself.
Oh wait, but Congress does not loose ANYTHING. They are so damn smart. They are Keeping THAT clause for themselves and staffers. NOT the American public, just themselves.
Oh yeah. And Trump JUST appointed a lying misleading anti-choice faker as deputy of Health and human services.
You know what? Its ok to be conservative. That's GREAT. But YOUR conservative "values" should not infringe on other peoples civil rights.
Be conservative. Don't have a gay relationship or marriage. Don't go to your child's "gay" wedding. Don't have an abortion. teach your kids that its against god.
But don't make a law so *I* cant have an abortion because you don't like it.
Or curtail my access to birth control because YOU don't like it.
or take away an Americans CIVIL rights because you are bigoted against gays.
Live your life. STOP trying to tell everyone we should live by YOUR standards.
This whole healthcare change will hurt EVERYONE. I don't GET how people don't see that!!

It did. I'm angry. But its all along the same vein.
Taking away our rights to birth control. Abortions. Having a baby. Pre existing conditions. Its unconscionable.
And the appointment of an anti choice person who literally spreads fake and made up information being appointed is unconscionable. Would her personal values filter down to EVERYONES healthcare? Probably. I don't care if she does not like abortion. She should not tell me I can't have one. And I'm sure she is against birth control as well. That affects a LOT of women. Giving out condoms? Welcome back AIDS and VD.
SO yeah, I'm mad.

This!!
And I am that person who is against abortions ((for me!)) and well I'm not gay, but I have family who I love dearly who is, and I can't fathom people hiding behind their religion, pretending that's the reason they don't want gay marriage. I'm a Christian, and never once have I felt a need to make anyone feel bad about their choices, or actually, how God intended them to be, bc it's not a friggen choice. Ugh I need to stop because I'll just start ranting! But thank you for writing this! What I choose for myself, doesn't give me the right to choose for others! While I do lean right for fiscal responsibility, bc of personal experience while growing up, I hate being lumped in with people who are socially conservative, because what's right for me, isn't what's right for everyone! And I still ranted sorry!

My family got totally screwed under the ACA and we've been paying a shit ton more for insurance since it passed, and as small business owners it blows - but at least that was just financially...this is a whole different level.

I am just curious. Without ACA would you have insurance at all?
I want to be clear this is real question with NO flame. I don't want the written word to come across than what I mean. and honest question looking for a heartfelt honest answer.

Yup. Always had it, it was just a lot cheaper with better coverage.
And I get that a lot of people couldn't afford health insurance prior to that reform. And I believe that something needs to be done, but I don't believe that anyone has figured out the best way yet.
Really all I'm saying is that something that needed to be made better could possibly be made much worse, and it's pretty much disgusting.

My parents have to buy their own insurance. At first it was much more affordable when the exchange came along but premiums have gone up. My sister has had coverage for the first time in her adult life thanks to medicaid expansion.
The constant resistance from the gop has not helped anyone though. Insurance companies are pulling out of the marketplace as Republicans love to remind us but that's bc the administration is so against it so they don't want to participate. Iowa which has been referenced all day by republican congressmen is a unique situation bc one person has over a million dollars in claims every single month so it's a losing situation for a company to cover that state. We definitely need changes in many aspects of healthcare but this bill is going to screw so many people.

I am so frightened and disgusted. As a mental health professional, I have seen more people covered with more comprehensive benefits, lower copayments, and less red tape since the ACA passed. America is a joke is right. This country is going down the tubes. At least the lower 98% of us. How these b@stard congressmen can say this is beneficial for anyone except their rich donors, I don't understand.

Yes true. But please call anyway to show them just how many of us are AGAINST this abomination of a "healthcare plan" (i.e. $$$ bill for the rich). Especially Schumer as he is in a position of power as Senate minority leader. I can only get through to a person at his Manhattan office btw.

Though that vote is done, I am also calling my congressperson who is Tom Suozzi. He voted no, thankfully. Anyone against this who lives in Peter King or Lee Zeldin's districts-- they voted YES. I would be on the phone and showing up at their office in protest.

This is essential to realize. People think they can be complacent because they have Dem reps. These people wheel and deal behind closed doors a LOT and Schumer is pretty good at reaching across the isle. More calls to him will mean he can issue clear, quantifiable warnings to his GOP Senate colleagues about the dangers of voting in favor of this bill.

Healthcare Reform
I was all for change to affordable care act because let's face it. It wasn't affordable and I think most can agree that we all needed to find a way to truly make it more affordable. When spousal benefits were cut at my job because of new laws that allowed employers to not cover a spouse if they have insurance through their job regardless of the cost, we had to look. It was $1295 a month for my husband. Just him. With a 10k out of pocket cost for the "cheapest" plan. It was cheaper for us to pay the fine so he went uninsured for 6 months until he got a new job. It was affordable. However, after seeing proposals of what's on the chopping block, no... just no... that is not the answer to making insurance more affordable. At all.

Plus still call your reps. This bill will be changed and will have to go back to the house for approval. This is going to be a long back and forth.
