Having a terrible week...any advice or words of encouragement?

I just need to get this all out. I gave birth to DD last Tuesday. I haven't had even a split second since then to even post her birth story or about her at all. She was born in distress with meconium and her blood sugar was way low. She was brought to the NICU after I saw her for only a split second. I wasn't able to nurse her until 6 hours after she was born. She stayed on the IV for two days and then was finally able to room-in with us. The next morning she was readmitted to the NICU for jaundice and had to stay under phototherapy for 2.5 days. We finally got to go home a little later than planned, but all together.

Things have been okay, and I have been having what I thought was a great recovery. For the last day or so I've been having this heaviness/tightness in my chest/shortness of breath though and thought I should mention it to my doctor. Sure enough I was sent right to the ER and now here I am at the hospital away from my babies. I am about to crumble. So far it has come back that my heart looks enlarged. Has anyone had this after a c/s? I am trying not to google because I am trying not to freak out.

I also can't nurse because one of the tests I had uses a radioactive injection. After struggling to nurse her in the NICU, here I am at 7 days old having to give formula. I am so upset.

I should also mention my poor DH is on his own trying to figure out how to manage my 18 month DS and baby girl. We have no help here.

Needless to say, we are very stressed. Anyone been through something similar? Have advice? Prayers and hugs are good too! I'm so upset.

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on the birth of your DD! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Secondly, lots and lots of hugs and prayers for you and your speedy recovery. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I don't have any advice for you, b/c I can't imagine having to be in hospital right now when all you want to be is at home, but you must think about yourself right now. I remember another mommy posting about having an enlarged heart or something similar soon after she gave birth a few months ago. I would edit your original post and change the Topic heading to something that has Enlarged Heart Post Partum in the title, maybe that will get more info for you. Hang in there! Your DH will do a great job, and before you know it, you will be home. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Katie oh no... I am so sorry sweetie! I think you need to call a friend and ask for help if they can. That is so much for two people to deal with, let alone one! I wish I was closer, I'd be there in a heartbeat! I hope your issues are nothing serious and you are home with your gorgeous babies soon. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Having a terrible week...any advice or words of encouragement?

I am so sorry that you are going through this. I can absolutely relate as I too was readmitted to the hospital when my DS was only 6 days old. My DH, who had never before even held another newborn, found himself caring for a baby all on his own for 2.5 days and 2 nights. I still don't know how he did it. It was so hard to be away from my baby and my DH. Hang in there. Just know that you have to take care of yourself so that you can be there for your children. I gave up breastfeeding due to the stress of that experience and I will forever regret that although in hindsight I recognize that at that point, emotionally, I just needed to survive.

Please ask for help, I didn't and that was a mistake. Have people visit, listen to their words of encouragement and most of all, try to enjoy the moments you have with you new baby and your DS as this will just be a distant memory one day.

I'm crying over here for you bc I know just how hard it is to find yourself very ill and away from your baby. It's an experience I never want to relive. Please FM if you need to talk. I wish you lots of strength and a speedy recovery.Chat Icon

P.S. I didn't get to see my DS for 16 hours after the birth Chat Icon

Many, many many hugs to you, my experience was somewhat different as DS stayed in the hopsital with me but I had multiple complications during the birth and afterwards from my CS and had to say in the hospital, it was very tough.....I was knocked out when my DS was born due to problems in the operating room, things went down hill quickly from there...please do the best you can now and take good care of yourself, I know a LOT easier said than done, lean on those close to you whether family or friends, or both and know that in no time you'll be together with your family but take care of yourself, sometimes CS can be very , very hard on the body.....Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Hopefully it will all be related to anxiety and not anything heart/lung related. It sure sounds like you have enough of a reason to have some anxiety. Keep us posted and feel better!

I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I believe Tine73 had some sort of issue with her heart PP. You could FM her...

Also if you want to continue to BF you can get a hospital grade pump there and pump every three hours to keep your supply up.

I hope you feel better soonChat Icon
